Taylor analyzes the full sociocultural context of ultrasound technology and imagery. Drawing upon ethnographic research both within and beyond the medical setting, Taylor shows how ultrasound has entered into public consumer culture in the United States. The book documents and critically analyzes societal uses for ultrasound such as nondiagnostic "keepsake" ultrasound businesses that foster a new consumer market for these blurry, monochromatic images of eagerly awaited babies, and anti-abortion clinics that use ultrasound in an attempt to make women bond with the fetuses they carry, inciting a pro-life state of mind. This book offers much-needed critical awareness of the less easily recognized ways in which ultrasound technology is profoundly social and political in the United States today. 410 0$aStudies in medical anthropology. 606 $aFetus$xUltrasonic imaging$xSocial aspects 606 $aFetus$xUltrasonic imaging$xPsychological aspects 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aFetus$xUltrasonic imaging$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aFetus$xUltrasonic imaging$xPsychological aspects. 676 $a618.3/207543 700 $aTaylor$b Janelle S.$f1965-$01039715 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910454232503321 996 $aThe public life of the fetal sonogram$92462069 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01721nam0 2200373 i 450 001 VEA1019545 005 20231121125922.0 010 $a9782728308675 020 $aIT$b2010-6250 100 $a20100713d2010 ||||0itac50 ba 101 | $afre$aita$aeng 102 $ait 181 1$6z01$ai $bxxxe 182 1$6z01$an 200 1 $a˜Les œfrontières du profane dans l'antiquité tardive$fétudes réunies par Éric Rebillard et Claire Sotinel 210 $aRoma$cÉcole française de Rome$d2010 215 $a372 p.$d24 cm 225 | $aCollection de l'École française de Rome$v428 410 0$1001CFI0016288$12001 $aCollection de l'École française de Rome$v428$171202$aÉcole française de Rome$3CFIV017404 606 $aReligioni$xImpero romano$xSec. 3.-5.$2FIR$3UFIC014499$9I 606 $aCristianesimo e religioni non cristiane$xAntichità$2FIR$3LO1C196957$9I 606 $aVita religiosa$xImpero romano$xSec. 2.-5.$2FIR$3CFIC189129$9N 702 1$aSotinel$b, Claire$3VEAV032527 702 1$aRebillard$b, Éric$3VEAV035565 801 3$aIT$bIT-01$c20100713 850 $aIT-RM028 $aIT-RM0418 $aIT-FR0017 899 $aBiblioteca Universitaria Alessandrina$bRM028 899 $aBIBLIOTECA ACCADEMIA NAZ.
