These devices are no longer viewed as coveted gadgets for early technology adopters, but have instead become indispensable tools that offer competitive business advantages for the mobile workforce. While these devices provide productivity benefits, they also pose new risks to an organization's security by the information they contain or can access remotely. Enabling adequate user authentication is the first line of defense against unauthorized use of an unattended, lost, or stolen handheld device. Smart cards have long been the choice of authentication mechanism for many organizations; however, few handheld devices easily support readers for standard-size smart cards. This report describes two novel types of smart cards that use standard interfaces supported by handheld devices, avoiding use of the more cumbersome standard-size smart card readers. These solutions are aimed at helping organization apply smart cards for authentication and other security services. Details of the design and implementation are provided. 517 $aSmart cards and mobile handheld devices 606 $aSmart cards 606 $aPocket computers$xSecurity measures 606 $aIdentification cards 606 $aAuthentication 615 0$aSmart cards. 615 0$aPocket computers$xSecurity measures. 615 0$aIdentification cards. 615 0$aAuthentication. 701 $aJansen$b Wayne A$01381292 701 $aGavrila$b Serban$01394327 701 $aSeveillac$b Clement$01394328 701 $aKrorlev$b Vlad$01394329 712 02$aInformation Technology Laboratory (National Institute of Standards and Technology).$bComputer Security Division. 801 0$bNBS 801 1$bNBS 801 2$bGPO 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910697306203321 996 $aSmart cards and mobile handheld devices$93451543 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01335nam0 22003131i 450 001 RML0314530 005 20231121125753.0 100 $a20121121d2008 ||||0itac50 ba 101 | $aita 102 $ait 181 1$6z01$ai $bxxxe 182 1$6z01$an 200 1 $aEnciclopedia gregoriana$ela vita, l'opera e la fortuna fi Gregorio Magno$fa cura di Giuseppe Cremascoli, Antonella Degli'Innocenti 210 $aFirenze $cSISMEL - Edizioni del Galluzzo $dİ2008 215 $aXXXV,380 p., [16] p. di tav.$cill.$d30 cm 225 | $aArchivium Gregorianum$c- Firenze $eSISMEL - Edizioni del Galluzzo $v15 410 0$1001RML0328706$12001 $aArchivium Gregorianum$c- Firenze $eSISMEL - Edizioni del Galluzzo $v15 606 $aGregorio : Magno $2FIR$3RMLC180599$9I 676 $a270.0351$9$v20 702 1$aDegl'Innocenti$b, Antonella$3RMLV161413 702 1$aCremascoli$b, Giuseppe$3RMLV174256 801 3$aIT$bIT-01$c20121121 850 $aIT-FR0017 899 $aBiblioteca umanistica Giorgio Aprea$bFR0017 912 $aRML0314530 950 0$aBiblioteca umanistica Giorgio Aprea$d 52COBAL C.M.489.15$e 52VM 0000850865 VM barcode:01697. - Inventario:536 AMTVM$fB $h20101001$i20121204 977 $a 52 996 $aEnciclopedia Gregoriana$9225569 997 $aUNICAS
