Based on the main forms of the language, it offers an analysis of the segments and the processes in its sound system. Each section begins with a description of the area of phonology which is the subject - such as stress patterns, phonotactics, epenthesis or metathesis - and then proceeds to consider the special aspects of this subject from a theoretical and typological perspective. The book pays particular attention to key processes in the sound system of modern Irish. The two most important of these are palatalisation and initial mutation, phenomena which are central to Irish and the analysis of which has consequences for general phonological theory. The other main emphasis in the book is on a typological comparison of several different languages, all of which show palatalisation and/or initial mutation as part of their systems. The different forms of Celtic, Slavic languages, Romance dialects and languages along with languages such as Finnish, Fula, Nivkh and Southern Paiute are considered to find out how processes which are phonetic in origin (external sandhi) can become functionalised and integrated into the morphosyntactic system of a language. 410 0$aEmpirical approaches to language typology ;$v47. 606 $aIrish language$xPhonology 606 $aIrish language$xPhonetics 606 $aIrish language$xPronunciation 606 $aIrish language$xDialects 606 $aLanguage and culture$zIreland$xHistory 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aIrish language$xPhonology. 615 0$aIrish language$xPhonetics. 615 0$aIrish language$xPronunciation. 615 0$aIrish language$xDialects. 615 0$aLanguage and culture$xHistory. 676 $a491.6/215 700 $aHickey$b Raymond$f1954-$0176031 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910463818603321 996 $aThe sound structure of modern Irish$92454301 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01264nam0 22003133i 450 001 MIL0531732 005 20231121125549.0 010 $a0970059116$bhb 100 $a20150826d2001 ||||0itac50 ba 101 | $aeng$agrc 102 $aus 181 1$6z01$ai $bxxxe 182 1$6z01$an 200 1 $a˜A œYale Papyrus (P Yale III 137) in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library III$fby Paul Schubert 210 $aOakville$cAmerican Society of Papyrologists$dc2001 215 $aXI, 112 p., \4! c. di tav.$cill.$d24 cm. 225 | $aAmerican studies in papyrology$v41 410 0$1001SBL0692444$12001 $aAmerican studies in papyrology$v41 606 $aPapiri greci$xEgitto$2FIR$3RMLC401148$9I 676 $a091$9Manoscritti$v21 700 1$aSchubert$b, Paul$f <1963->$3MILV350075$4070$01441582 801 3$aIT$bIT-01$c20150826 850 $aIT-FR0017 899 $aBiblioteca umanistica Giorgio Aprea$bFR0017 $eN 912 $aMIL0531732 950 0$aBiblioteca umanistica Giorgio Aprea$d 52S.SIJ.
