The vitreous matrix in this rigid cementitious material channels both indirect and reflected light so that it flows through the panel, bringing light to an interior space. The compression strength is comparable to that of traditional precast panels. It can be customized by adding TX ActiveŽ, a photocatalytic coating which adds self-cleaning and ?smog-eating? performance. This panel is formed by bonding special resins within a cement matrix, which includes sand/gravel, stainless steel fibers, polypropylene fibers, and admixtures, which creates a compact material with good mechanical strength and aesthetic characteristics. The front facing side is mirror polished with beveled edges while the hidden side is ground to allow passage of diffused light. Flat panels have a maximum size of 9.8 x 3.3 ft (2.9 x 1 m), small blocks up to 8 x 9 in (20 x 22 cm), and thicknesses from 0.6 ? 1.9 in (1.5 ? 5 cm). Panels can be created with a cement matrix of white, gray, and black. Inlay patterns and sizes are customizable, along with surface finishing (polished, semi polished, rough), and transparency grade, ranging from transparent to translucent and in a variety of colors.
