Rather, Donald L. Donham argues that historical circumstance, local social pressure, and the cultural construction of much beyond sex condition the erotic. Donham makes this argument in relation to the centuries-old conversation on the fetish, applied to a highly unusual neighborhood in Atlantic Africa. There, local men, soon to be married to local women, are involved in long-term sexual relationships with European men. On the African side, these couplings are motivated by the pleasures of cosmopolitan connection and foreign commodities. On the other side, Europeans tend to fetishize Africans' race, while a few search to become slaves in master/ slave relationships. At its most wide ranging, The Erotics of History attempts to show that it is history, both personal and collective, in reversals and reenactments, that finally produces sexual excitement."--Provided by publisher. 606 $aSex role$zAfrica$xHistory 606 $aErotica$zAfrica$xHistory 606 $aFetishism (Sexual behavior)$zAfrica$xHistory 607 $aAfrica$xSocial conditions$xHistory 607 $aAfrica$xSexual behavior$xHistory 610 $aadult. 610 $aafrican fetish. 610 $aafrican. 610 $aatlantic africa. 610 $abdsm. 610 $acosmopolitan connection. 610 $acultural construction. 610 $aerotic. 610 $aeuropean men. 610 $afetish. 610 $aforeign commodities. 610 $agay men. 610 $agender studies. 610 $ahistorical circumstance. 610 $aindividual discovery. 610 $alearning about sex. 610 $algbt demographic studies. 610 $alocal social pressure. 610 $along term sexual relationships. 610 $adominant submissive relationships. 610 $asex condition. 610 $asexual excitement. 610 $asexuality. 610 $aenslaved persons. 615 0$aSex role$xHistory. 615 0$aErotica$xHistory. 615 0$aFetishism (Sexual behavior)$xHistory. 676 $a305.3096 700 $aDonham$b Donald L$g(Donald Lewis),$01023713 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996312641603316 996 $aThe Erotics of History$92432303 997 $aUNISA LEADER 02694nam 22004693 450 001 9911011337503321 005 20230629221315.0 010 $a9783428464562$b(electronic bk.) 010 $z9783428064564 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6940791 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL6940791 035 $a(CKB)21435494700041 035 $a(BIP)67986118 035 $a(BIP)37817710 035 $a(EXLCZ)9921435494700041 100 $a20220331d2022 uy 0 101 0 $ager 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$a"Bündnissysteme" und "Außenpolitik" im späteren Mittelalter. 205 $a1st ed. 210 1$aBerlin :$cDuncker & Humblot,$d2022. 210 4$d©1988. 215 $a1 online resource (120 pages) 225 1 $aZeitschrift für Historische Forschung.
