In this collection, Dennis Looney assembles a diverse compendium of Ariosto's prose, including his 214 Letters and a satirical piece, Herbal Doctor.Ariosto's correspondence paints a detailed portrait of the world he lived and wrote in. While some letters illuminate his day-to-day life, including his work as a provincial commissioner for the ruling Este family of Ferrara, others shed light on the composition and production of his poems and plays, allowing a glimpse of the man in his creative workshop. Herbal Doctor, a parody of humanism in general and neoplatonic philosophy in particular, may mark a defense of Ariosto's decision to turn away from the philological world of his contemporaries in order to pursue a different kind of learning.Looney's elegant, careful translation provides us with the first extensive selection of Ariosto's prose works in English, and enriches our understanding of one of Italy's most important Renaissance writers. 410 0$aLorenzo da Ponte Italian library series. 606 $aHISTORY / Renaissance$2bisacsh 608 $aElectronic books. 615 7$aHISTORY / Renaissance. 676 $a851/.3 700 $aAriosto$b Lodovico$f1474-1533,$0192228 702 $aLooney$b Dennis, 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910456972403321 996 $a"My muse will have a story to paint"$92195716 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00892nam a2200241 a 4500 001 991000963209707536 008 050413s1998 it 000 0 ita d 020 $a8887280010 035 $ab13299670-39ule_inst 040 $aDip.to di Studi Storici$bita 082 0 $a327.43009045 100 1 $aBenocci, Beatrice$0139992 245 13$aLa grande illusione :$bla questione tedesca dal 1953 al 1963 /$cBeatrice Benocci 260 $aManduria :$bLacaita,$cc1998 300 $a198 p. $c22 cm 440 4$aBiblioteca di storia contemporanea ;$v43 650 4$aGermania$xPolitica$y1953-1963 907 $a.b13299670$b21-09-06$c13-04-05 912 $a991000963209707536 945 $aLE009 STOR.72-111$g1$i2009000356993$lle009$o-$pE13.00$q-$rl$s- $t0$u1$v0$w1$x0$y.i1405016x$z13-04-05 996 $aGrande illusione$9500086 997 $aUNISALENTO 998 $ale009$b - - $cm$da $e-$fita$git $h0$i0
