Using oral history as well as archival research, it provides an insight into children's wartime lives in which bombing often featured prominently, even though it has slipped out of French collective memory. How prepared were the French for this aerial onslaught? What was it like to be bombed? And how did people understand why their 'friends' across the Channel were attacking them? Divided into three parts dealing with expectations, experiences and explanations of bombing, this book considers the child's view of wartime violence, analysing resilience, understanding and trauma. It contributes significantly to scholarship on civilian life in Occupied France, and will appeal to students, academics and general readers interested in the history of Vichy France, oral history and the experiences of children in war. 410 0$aCultural history of modern war. 606 $aWorld War, 1939-1945$xChildren$zFrance 606 $aBombing, Aerial$zFrance$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aWorld War, 1939-1945$xCampaigns$zFrance 606 $aHistory$2mup 606 $aSecond World War$2bicssc 606 $aHISTORY / Military / World War II$2bisach 606 $ac 1940 to c 1949$2thema 607 $aFrance$2fast 608 $aHistory. 610 $aAllied bombing. 610 $aAllied propaganda. 610 $aBoulogne-Billancourt. 610 $aBrest. 610 $aFrance. 610 $aFrench children. 610 $aFrench collective memory. 610 $aLille. 610 $aSecond World War. 610 $aVichy. 610 $achildren's agency. 610 $achildren's wartime lives. 610 $aemotional responses. 610 $aevacuees. 610 $amunicipal-level preparations. 610 $aoral history. 610 $apublic death. 610 $arefugees. 610 $asensory response. 610 $awar preparedness. 615 0$aWorld War, 1939-1945$xChildren 615 0$aBombing, Aerial$xHistory 615 0$aWorld War, 1939-1945$xCampaigns 615 7$aHistory 615 7$aSecond World War 615 7$aHISTORY / Military / World War II 615 7$ac 1940 to c 1949 676 $a940.530830944 700 $aDodd$b Lindsey$01521904 801 2$bUkMaJRU 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910798750003321 996 $aFrench children under the Allied bombs, 1940-45$93836301 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01741nas 2200529- 450 001 9910303535503321 005 20240204213017.0 011 $a2374-281X 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2780680-7 035 $a(OCoLC)883921379 035 $a(CKB)2670000000555641 035 $a(CONSER)--2014202640 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000555641 100 $a20140718b19451956 --- a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aBulletin of the National Association for Nursery Education 210 1$aChicago :$cNational Association for Nursery Education,$d[1945-1956] 215 $a1 online resource (11 volumes) 311 $a2334-4024 517 1 $aN.A.N.E. bulletin 517 1 $aNANE bulletin 606 $aEducation, Preschool$vPeriodicals 606 $aEducation, Primary$vPeriodicals 606 $aEducation, Preschool$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00903161 606 $aEducation, Primary$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00903204 606 $aÉducation préscolaire$vPériodiques 608 $aCzasopismo pedagogiczne.$2dbn 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 608 $aperiodicals.$2aat 608 $aPériodiques.$2rvmgf 610 $aTheory & Practice of Education 615 0$aEducation, Preschool 615 0$aEducation, Primary 615 7$aEducation, Preschool. 615 7$aEducation, Primary. 615 6$aÉducation préscolaire 676 $a372.21 712 02$aNational Association for the Education of Young Children, 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910303535503321 996 $aBulletin of the National Association for Nursery Education$92186701 997 $aUNINA
