Transforming American National Identity- The China Mystique --Notes --Bibliography --Acknowledgments --IndexThroughout the history of the United States, images of China have populated the American imagination. Always in flux, these images shift rapidly, as they did during the early decades of the twentieth century. In this erudite and original study, Karen J. Leong explores the gendering of American orientalism during the 1930's and 1940's. Focusing on three women who were popularly and publicly associated with China-Pearl S. Buck, Anna May Wong, and Mayling Soong-Leong shows how each negotiated what it meant to be American, Chinese American, and Chinese against the backdrop of changes in the United States as a national community and as an international power. The China Mystique illustrates how each of these women encountered the possibilities as well as the limitations of transnational status in attempting to shape her own opportunities. During these two decades, each woman enjoyed expanding visibility due to an increasingly global mass culture, rising nationalism in Asia, the emergence of the United States from the shadows of imperialism to world power, and the more assertive participation of women in civic and consumer culture.Pearl S. Stressing interpretation and experience alongside affect and sensation it convincingly argues that narrative is key to contemporary forms of cultural production and to the practice of contemporary life. Re-appraising the prospects for narrative in the digital age, it insists on the centrality of narrative to informational culture and provokes a critical re-appraisal of how innovations in information technology as a material cultural form can be understood and assessed. The book offers a careful exploDigital mediaDiscourse analysis, Narrativeage of information.cultural production.digital age.information technology.informational culture.interpretation.narrative.new media.sensation.techno-cultural writing.Digital media.Discourse analysis, Narrative.302.231Bassett Caroline1207198MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910791945603321The arc and the machine3868061UNINA01951nam 2200409z- 450 991056644260332120220512(CKB)5850000000023421(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/81485(oapen)doab81485(EXLCZ)99585000000002342120202205d2022 |y 0itaurmn|---annantxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierIl De modo audiendi confessiones di Heinrich Lur e la penitenza sacramentale nel basso medioevoMilanFrancoAngeli20221 online resource (163 p.)88-351-3429-3 Since the central centuries of the Middle Ages the sacrament of penance became one of the central aspects of religious life and Christian practice. To help the clergy tasked with pastoral care in listening penitents' confessions manuals were penned, which are to this day not much studied. The analysis of one of these texts, the De modo audiendi confessiones of Heinrich Lur, canon in the cathedral of Trento around the half of the fifteenth century, is the occasion to reflect on what in the late Middle Ages revolved around the administration of sacramental penance, in regards to theology and canon law as well as pastoral care.Christian ministry & pastoral activitybicsscChristian sacramentsbicsscAbsolutionConfessionConfessors' ManualPastoral CarePenanceSacramentsChristian ministry & pastoral activityChristian sacramentsColombo Lorenzoauth1286282BOOK9910566442603321Il De modo audiendi confessiones di Heinrich Lur e la penitenza sacramentale nel basso medioevo3019853UNINA01125cam0 22003131 450 SOBE0008487020251015114456.0978887770769720251014d2007 |||||ita|0103 baitaITFisimario napoletanoRuggero Guarini[prefazioni di Raffaele La Capria e di Francesco Durante]MilanoSpirali2007437 p.22 cm<L'>alingua250001LAEC000164312001 L'*alingua250Fisimario napoletanoSOBA000361044444330Guarini, RuggeroAF00023899070144499La_Capria, Raffaele <1922-2022>AF00013970070Durante, Francesco <1952-2019>AF00005724070ITUNISOB20251015RICAUNISOBUNISOB853186231SOBE00084870M 102 Monografia moderna SBNM853001179SI1862312025101415AcquistoV15SpinosaUNISOBUNISOB20251014142744.020251014142823.0SpinosaFisimario napoletano4444330UNISOB
