The study of the Northeastern Neo-Aramaic (NENA) dialects has increased dramatically in the past decade as linguists seek to record these dialects before the disappearance of their last speakers. This work is a unique documentation of the now extinct Jewish Neo-Aramaic dialect of Challa (modern-day Çukurca, Turkey). It is based on recordings of the last native speaker of the dialect, who passed away in 2007. In addition to a grammatical description, it contains sample texts and a glossary of the dialect. Jewish Challa belongs to the cluster of NENA dialects known as 'lishana deni' and reference is made throughout to other dialects within this group.Studies in Semitic languages and linguistics ;54.Aramaic languageDialectsTurkeyÇukurcaGrammarJewsTurkeyÇukurcaLanguagesÇukurca (Turkey)LanguagesElectronic books.Aramaic languageDialectsGrammar.JewsLanguages.492/.2Fassberg Steven Ellis883461MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910459640003321The Jewish Neo-Aramaic dialect of Challa2279162UNINA04374nam 2200733 450 991080849480332120230912144234.097866107633681-280-76336-11-84964-345-81-55250-338-0(CKB)1000000000351269(EBL)3248134(SSID)ssj0000200256(PQKBManifestationID)11201617(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000200256(PQKBWorkID)10215564(PQKB)10087881(CaPaEBR)408178(CaBNvSL)slc00208501(Au-PeEL)EBL289467(CaPaEBR)ebr10176403(CaONFJC)MIL76336(OCoLC)93789421(Au-PeEL)EBL7120107(VaAlCD)20.500.12592/svcf44(schport)gibson_crkn/2009-12-01/4/408178(MiAaPQ)EBC289467(EXLCZ)99100000000035126920230325d2007 uy 0engurcn#---uuuuutxtccrThe media and the Rwanda genocide edited by Allan Thompson ; with a statement by Kofi Annan1st ed.London ;Ann Arbor :Pluto Press,[2007]©20071 online resource (xvi, 463 p.)Description based upon print version of record.0-7453-2626-9 0-7453-2625-0 Includes bibliographical references (p. 447-454) and index."Contents"; "Message to Symposium on the Media and the Rwanda Genocide"; "Preface"; "Notes on Contributors"; "1 Introduction"; "2 The Media Dichotomy"; "3 Rwanda: Walking the Road to Genocide"; "PART ONE: HATE MEDIA IN RWANDA"; "4 Call to Genocide: Radio in Rwanda, 1994"; "5 RTLM Propaganda: the Democratic Alibi"; "6 Kangura: the Triumph of Propaganda Refined"; "7 Rwandan Private Print Media on the Eve of the Genocide"; "8 Echoes of Violence: Considerations on Radio and Genocide in Rwanda"; "9 RTLM: the Medium that Became a Tool for Mass Murder""10 The Effect of RTLM's Rhetoric of Ethnic Hatred in Rural Rwanda"; "11 Journalism in a Time of Hate Media"; "PART TWO: INTERNATIONAL MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE GENOCIDE"; "12 Reporting the Genocide"; "13 Who Failed in Rwanda, Journalists or the Media?"; "14 Reporting Rwanda: the Media and the Aid Agencies"; "15 Limited Vision: How Both the American Media and Government Failed Rwanda"; "16 Missing the Story: the Media and the Rwanda Genocide"; "17 What Did They Say?
