Giehlow’s work with an initial focus on the Hieroglyphica of Horapollo, the manuscript of which was discovered by Giehlow, was a pioneering attempt to introduce the thesis that Egyptian hieroglyphics had a fundamental influence on the Italian literature of allegory and symbolism and beyond that on the evolution of all Renaissance art. The present edition includes the illustrations of Albrecht Dürer from the Pirckheimer translation of the Horapollo from the early fifteenth century.Brill's studies in intellectual history.Brill's texts and sources in intellectual history ;Volume 16.Brill's studies in intellectual history ;Volume 240.Egyptian languageWriting, HieroglyphicEgyptologyItalyHistoryRenaissanceItalyItalyCivilizationEgyptian influencesItalyCivilization1268-1559Electronic books.Egyptian languageWriting, Hieroglyphic.EgyptologyHistory.Renaissance945/.05Giehlow Karl1863-1913,857334Raybould RobinMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910460509303321The humanist interpretation of hieroglyphs in the allegorical studies of the Renaissance1914272UNINA02145nam 2200409 n 450 99639200160331620221107234840.0(CKB)1000000000675154(EEBO)2240895493(UnM)99838891(EXLCZ)99100000000067515419901119d1604 uy |laturbn||||a|bb|Thomæ Oliverii Buriensis Philiatri.
