I. Origins and early reception -- pt. II. Key concepts -- pt. III. Implications. The year 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Thomas S. Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. Up until recently, the book's philosophical reception has been shaped, for the most part, by the debates and the climate in philosophy of science in the 1960s and 1970s; this new collection of essays takes a renewed look at this work. This volume concentrates on particular issues addressed or raised in light of recent scholarship and without the pressure of the immediate concerns scholars had at the time of the Structure's publicaRoutledge Studies in the Philosophy of ScienceSciencePhilosophyCongressesParadigm (Theory of knowledge)CongressesSciencePhilosophyParadigm (Theory of knowledge)501Arabatzis Theodore1965-1528864Kindi Vasso1957-1528865FlBoTFGFlBoTFGBOOK9910779434503321Kuhn's The structure of scientific revolutions revisited3772746UNINA04497oam 2200625 450 991082877970332120230803203801.09781479878901e-book1479878901e-book10.18574/9781479878901(CKB)3710000000203888(EBL)1747365(SSID)ssj0001289954(PQKBManifestationID)12520783(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001289954(PQKBWorkID)11230801(PQKB)11626043(StDuBDS)EDZ0001323607(MiAaPQ)EBC1747365(OCoLC)884647770(MdBmJHUP)muse37403(DE-B1597)548414(DE-B1597)9781479878901(EXLCZ)99371000000020388820200723h20142014 fg 0engurbn#---uuuuutxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierThe Violence of Care Rape Victims, Forensic Nurses, and Sexual Assault Intervention /Sameena MullaNew York, NY :New York University Press,[2014]©20141 online resource (viii, 277 pages)Description based upon print version of record.1479867217 1479800317 Includes bibliographical references and index.Front matter --Contents --Acknowledgments --Introduction. Drawing on four years of participatory research in a Baltimore emergency room, Sameena Mulla reveals the realities of sexual assault response in the forensic age. Taking an approach developed at the intersection of medical and legal anthropology, she analyzes the ways in which nurses work to collect and preserve evidence while addressing the needs of sexual assault victims as patients. Mulla argues that blending the work of care and forensic investigation into a single intervention shapes how victims of violence understand their own suffering, recovery, and access to justice—in short, what it means to be a “victim”. As nurses race the clock to preserve biological evidence, institutional practices, technologies, and even state requirements for documentation undermine the way in which they are able to offer psychological and physical care. Yet most of the evidence they collect never reaches the courtroom and does little to increase the number of guilty verdicts. Mulla illustrates the violence of care with painstaking detail, illuminating why victims continue to experience what many call “secondary rape” during forensic intervention, even as forensic nursing is increasingly professionalized. Revictimization can occur even at the hands of conscientious nurses, simply because they are governed by institutional requirements that shape their practices. The Violence of Care challenges the uncritical adoption of forensic practice in sexual assault intervention and post-rape care, showing how forensic intervention profoundly impacts the experiences of violence, justice, healing and recovery for victims of rape and sexual assault.Forensic nursingUnited StatesRape victimsServices forUnited StatesPsychological aspectsRape victimsMedical examinationsUnited StatesForensic nursingRape victimsServices forPsychological aspects.Rape victimsMedical examinations362.883SOC002000PSY031000SOC026000bisacshMulla Sameenaauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut1692541DE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK9910828779703321The Violence of Care4069698UNINA01227nam0 22003011i 450 UON0011270320231205102643.40781-7110-090-220020107d1989 |0itac50 baengIN|||| 1||||Ancient Indian GlassArchaeology and TechnologyRavindra N.
