In this book, Ayham Dalal takes a closer look at this remarkable transformation. He draws on the tension between 'the shelter' and 'the dwelling' to unravel how new spaces unfold in between them, where refugees become architects and the camp is dismantled and reassembled. From Shelters to Dwellings is the first study to uniquely combine ethnographic observations with new architectural research methods, to illustrate in detail how refugees inhabit shelters. It is a must-read for anyone interested in understanding how camps and shelters are transformed by the powerful act of dwelling.DwellingsSocial aspectsArchitectureCampsJordanSyriaRefugeesDwellingFleeingArchitectureSpaceUrban StudiesRefugee StudiesUrban PlanningGeographyDwellingsSocial aspects.Architecture.300Dalal Ayham1265259NjHacINjHaclBOOK996483168003316From Shelters to Dwellings2967480UNISA03997nam 2200685Ia 450 991095908960332120200520144314.097866123122679781282312265128231226X9789027289391902728939510.1075/tsl.87(CKB)1000000000799331(SSID)ssj0000304097(PQKBManifestationID)11228574(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000304097(PQKBWorkID)10277539(PQKB)11248245(MiAaPQ)EBC622900(Au-PeEL)EBL622900(CaPaEBR)ebr10335309(CaONFJC)MIL231226(OCoLC)492092495(DE-B1597)721377(DE-B1597)9789027289391(EXLCZ)99100000000079933120090512d2009 uy 0engurcn|||||||||txtccrNegation patterns in West African languages and beyond /edited by Norbert Cyffer, Erwin Ebermann, Georg Ziegelmeyer1st ed.Amsterdam ;Philadelphia John Benjamins Pub. Dryer.Crosslinguistically, SVO languages most commonly place negative particles before the verb, employing SNegVO order. This paper documents an area in central Africa which deviates from this pattern, in which the negative follows the verb, typically occurring at the end of the clause, in SVONeg order. The languages in which this order is found do not form a natural class genetically, since they belong to three different families: Niger-Congo (including Adamawa-Ubangian, Platoid, northern Bantoid among others), Nilo-Saharan (especially Bongo-Bagirmi, but also Kresh and a few other groups), and Afro-Asiatic (specifically Chadic, but found widely throughout Chadic). The area stretches from Nigeria across to the Central African Republic and down into the northern Democratic Republic of the Congo.Typological studies in language ;v. 87.African languagesAfrica, WestNegativesAfrica, WestLanguagesNegativesAfrican languagesNegatives.49618.92bclCyffer Norbert657577Ebermann Erwin1953-1802259Ziegelmeyer Georg783887MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910959089603321Negation patterns in West African languages and beyond4347833UNINA
