It focuses on an under-researched, and yet highly influential group of teachers that shape English language education in Japan: Japanese university English teachers. In three interrelated narrative studies, it examines how four relatively new teachers develop professional identity as they become members of the community of practice of university English teachers; how gender impacts the professional identity of seven female professors ranging in age from their early 30s to their 60s; and how one teacher’s teaching practices and beliefs reflect her personal and professional identity.New Perspectives on Language and EducationEnglish language -- Study and teaching -- JapanEnglish language -- Study and teaching -- Japanese speakersEnglish teachers -- In-service training -- JapanEnglish teachers -- JapanEnglish teachers -- Training of -- JapanEnglish languageStudy and teachingJapanEnglish languageStudy and teachingJapanese speakersJapanEnglish teachersIn-service trainingJapanEnglish teachersTraining ofJapanEnglish teachersEnglishHILCCLanguages & LiteraturesHILCCEnglish LanguageHILCCEnglish language -- Study and teaching -- Japan.English language -- Study and teaching -- Japanese speakers.English teachers -- In-service training -- Japan.English teachers -- Japan.English teachers -- Training of -- Japan.English languageStudy and teachingEnglish languageStudy and teachingJapanese speakersEnglish teachersIn-service trainingEnglish teachersTraining ofEnglish teachers.EnglishLanguages & LiteraturesEnglish Language428.0071/152Nagatomo Diane Hawleyauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut1854078DE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK9910962189603321Exploring Japanese University English Teachers' Professional Identity4451142UNINA
