The author contends that it was this frequent mixing which caused Castilian to evolve more rapidly than other varieties of Hispano-Romance, and which rendered Spanish particularly subject to levelling of its linguistic irregularities and to simplification of its structures. These two processes continued as the language extended into and across the Americas. These processes are viewed in the context of the Hispano-Romance dialect continuum, which includes Galician, Portuguese and Catalan, as well as New World varieties. The book emphasises the subtlety and seamlessness of language variation, both geographical and social, and the impossibility of defining strict boundaries between varieties. Its conclusions will be relevant both to Hispanists and to historical sociolinguists more generally.Variation & Change in SpanishSpanish languageVariationSpanish languageStudy and teachingSpanish languageVariation.Spanish languageStudy and teaching.467/.009Penny Ralph J(Ralph John),1940-164430UkCbUPUkCbUPBOOK9910455065403321Variation and change in spanish490208UNINA01088nam a2200277 i 450099100325555970753620020509114946.0001115s1981 it ||| | ita 8800840345b1113334x-39ule_instPARLA178375ExLDip.to Scienze Storiche Fil. e Geogr.ita320.5Bobbio, Norberto24662Le ideologie e il potere in crisi :pluralismo, democrazia, socialismo, comunismo, terza via e terza forza /Norberto BobbioFirenze :Le Monnier,1981VII, 229 p. ;21 cm.Quaderni di storia ;55Articoli gia pubbl. in: La stampa, 1976-1980.Politica - IdeologieItalia1976-1980Saggi.b1113334x23-02-1728-06-02991003255559707536LE009 STOR.69-8012009000043947le009-E0.00-l- 02120.i1127240528-06-02Ideologie e il potere in crisi101557UNISALENTOle00901-01-00ma -itait 31
