Corpora and Intercultural Studies,2510-4802 ;7981-15-8994-1 Introduction and Research Rationale -- Corpus-assisted translation teaching: an overview -- Web-based parallel corpora: technical issues -- Methodology -- Background survey and translation experiments -- Attitudes of students towards corpus use in translation -- Conclusions and implications. This book sheds new light on corpus-assisted translation pedagogy, an intersection of three distinct but cognate disciplines: corpus linguistics, translation and pedagogy. By taking an innovative and empirical approach to translation teaching, the study utilizes mixed methods, including translation experiments, surveys and in-depth focus groups. The results demonstrated the unique advantages and at the same time called attention to possible pitfalls of using corpora for translation teaching purposes. This book enriches our understanding of corpus application in the setting of translation between Chinese and English, two languages which are each distinctly different from one another. Readers will also discover new horizons in this burgeoning and interdisciplinary field of research. This book appeals to a broad readership, from scholars and researchers who are interested in translation technology to widen the scope of translation studies, translation trainers in search of effective teaching approaches to a growing number of cross-disciplinary postgraduate students longing to improve their translation skills and competence.Corpora and Intercultural Studies,2510-4802 ;7Translating and interpretingStudy and teachingTranslating and interpretingStudy and teaching.418.02071Liu Kanglong952614MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910426048803321Corpus-assisted translation teaching2153564UNINA03996nam 22006975 450 991037784070332120251030103642.09781137551559113755155010.1057/978-1-137-55155-9(CKB)4100000010159828(MiAaPQ)EBC6037661(DE-He213)978-1-137-55155-9(Perlego)3480410(MiAaPQ)EBC29081004(EXLCZ)99410000001015982820200201d2020 u| 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierThe British Press and the Greek Crisis, 1943–1949 Orchestrating the Cold-War ‘Consensus’ in Britain /by Gioula Koutsopanagou1st ed. 2020.London :Palgrave Macmillan UK :Imprint: Palgrave Macmillan,2020.1 online resource (xii, 375 pages)Palgrave Studies in the History of the Media,2634-65839781137551542 1137551542 1. Conclusion. This book provides the first detailed analysis of how interactions between government policy and Fleet Street affected the political coverage of the Greek civil war, one of the first major confrontations of the Cold War. During this period the exponential growth of media influence was an immensely potent weapon of psychological warfare. Throughout the 1940s the press maintained its position as the most powerful medium and its influence remained unchallenged. The documentary record shows that a British media consensus was more fabricated than spontaneous, and the tools of media persuasion and manipulation were extremely important in building acceptance for British foreign policy. Gioula Koutsopanagou examines how this media consensus was influenced and molded by the British government and how Foreign Office channels were key to molding public attitudes to British foreign policy. These channels included system of briefings given by the News Department to the diplomatic correspondents, and the contacts between embassies and the British foreign correspondents.Palgrave Studies in the History of the Media,2634-6583Great BritainHistoryJournalismMilitary historyEuropeHistoryWorld historyHistory of Britain and IrelandJournalismMilitary HistoryEuropean HistoryWorld History, Global and Transnational HistoryGreat BritainHistory.Journalism.Military history.EuropeHistory.World history.History of Britain and Ireland.Journalism.Military History.European History.World History, Global and Transnational History.941.084Koutsopanagou Gioulaauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut942334MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910377840703321The British Press and the Greek Crisis, 1943–19494450935UNINA
