Through colorfully narrated and skillfully analyzed case studies of their lawsuits and petitions, Herman Ooms traces the evolution of class and status conflicts in villages during this feudal era. Inspired by the work of Max Weber and Pierre Bourdieu, the author links detailed village analysis to a broader discussion of societal power fields and juridical domains.Opening with an angry woman's lifelong struggle against village authority, Ooms's study examines how obscure historical actors, local elites, commoners, women, and outcastes manipulated the distinctions of class and status to their own advantage. The case studies offer a penetrating view of legal practice, including the position of women, inheritance customs, and particular forms of village justice. In a significant contribution to the legal history of outcaste populations, Ooms also studies the origins of discrimination against the ancestors of the burakumin population, a group that even now is struggling for equality in Japanese society.Tokugawa village practiceSocial classesJapanHistoryVillagesJapanHistoryVillagesLaw and legislationJapanHistorySocial classesJapanHistoryVillagesJapanHistoryVillagesHistoryLaw and legislationJapanSociology & Social HistoryHILCCSocial SciencesHILCCSocial ConditionsHILCCJapanSocial conditions1600-1868JapanPolitics and government1600-1868History.fastSocial classesHistory.VillagesHistory.VillagesLaw and legislationHistory.Social classesHistory.VillagesHistory.VillagesHistoryLaw and legislationSociology & Social HistorySocial SciencesSocial Conditions306/.0952Ooms Herman641732DLCDLCBOOK9910495955503321Tokugawa village practice2864315UNINAThis Record contains information from the Harvard Library Bibliographic Dataset, which is provided by the Harvard Library under its Bibliographic Dataset Use Terms and includes data made available by, among others the Library of Congress05001nam 22008175 450 991029997110332120251113182604.03-662-44926-910.1007/978-3-662-44926-4(CKB)3710000000281186(EBL)1967185(OCoLC)897132903(SSID)ssj0001386720(PQKBManifestationID)11826502(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001386720(PQKBWorkID)11374432(PQKB)10332870(MiAaPQ)EBC1967185(DE-He213)978-3-662-44926-4(PPN)183092775(EXLCZ)99371000000028118620141112d2014 u| 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrProgress in Differential-Algebraic Equations Deskriptor 2013 /edited by Sebastian Schöps, Andreas Bartel, Michael Günther, E. It examines the wide range of current research topics in descriptor systems, including mathematical modeling, index analysis, wellposedness of problems, stiffness and different time-scales, cosimulation and splitting methods and convergence analysis. In addition, the book also presents applications from the automotive and circuit industries that show that descriptor systems provide challenging problems from the point of view of both theory and practice.   The book contains nine papers and is organized into three parts: control, simulation, and model order reduction. It will serve as an ideal resource for applied mathematicians and engineers, in particular those from mechanics and electromagnetics, who work with coupled differential equations.Differential-Algebraic Equations Forum,2199-840XDifferential equationsNumerical analysisComputer simulationMathematical modelsComputer-aided engineeringDifferential EquationsNumerical AnalysisComputer ModellingMathematical Modeling and Industrial MathematicsComputer-Aided Engineering (CAD, CAE) and DesignDifferential equations.Numerical analysis.Computer simulation.Mathematical models.Computer-aided engineering.Differential Equations.Numerical Analysis.Computer Modelling.Mathematical Modeling and Industrial Mathematics.Computer-Aided Engineering (CAD, CAE) and Design.003.3510515.352518Schöps Sebastianedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtBartel Andreasedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtGünther Michaeledthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtter Maten E.
