While scholars have long examined the texts and images on rolls, they have rarely taken the manuscripts themselves into account. This volume readdresses this imbalance by focusing on the materiality and various usages of rolls in late medieval England and France. Researchers from England, France, Germany and Singapore demonstrate in 11 contributions how this approach can increase our understanding of the rolls and their contents, as well as the contexts in which they were produced and used.Materiale Textkulturen Classical textsbicsscClassical history / classical civilisationbicsscEnglandfastFrancefastConference papers and proceedings.lcgftConference papers and proceedings.fastEngland.France.Rolls.late Middle Ages.Classical textsClassical history / classical civilisation002.09Holtz Stefan Gedt1371824Holz Stefan G.edthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtPeltzer Jörgedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtShirota Mareeedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtDeutsche Forschungsgemeinschaftfndhttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/fndDE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK996328035803316The Roll in England and France in the Late Middle Ages3401473UNISA01416nam0 22003011i 450 UON0002769520231205102046.59320020107d1992 |0itac50 baspaES|||| 1||||ˆLos ‰HunosTradicion e historiaSusan Bock. - MurciaUniversidad de Murcia, 1992503 p.24 cmIn testa al front.: Universidad de Nurcia, Area de Historia AntiguaUniversidad de MurciaIT-UONSI F211009001UON000276932001 Antiguedad y CristianismoMonografias historicas sobre la antiguedad tardiaDirector: Antonino Gonzales Blanco9UNNISTORIAUONC004025FIESMurciaUONL000956A1STORIA ANTICA21AC IV AAsia Centrale - Storia - Periodo preislamicoABOCKSusanUONV018817643907Universidad de MurciaUONV250527650ITSOL20250620RICAUON00027695SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI AC IV A 094 N SI SA 80597 5 094 N SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI F 211 009 SI MC 18497 5 Universidad de MurciaHunos1188371UNIOR03535nam 22004813 450 991075337940332120240115084507.01-5017-7158-210.1515/9781501771583(CKB)28808862600041(MiAaPQ)EBC7192482(Au-PeEL)EBL7192482(DE-B1597)666954(DE-B1597)9781501771583(OCoLC)1370009354(EXLCZ)992880886260004120240115d2023 uy 0engur|||||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierBeyond Description Anthropologies of Explanation1st ed.Ithaca :Cornell University Press,2023.©2023.1 online resource (263 pages)1-5017-7157-4 Frontmatter -- Contents -- Acknowledgments -- Introduction: Ethnographies of Explanation and the Explanation of Ethnography -- Part 1: ON ANTHROPOLOGICAL EXPLANATIONS -- 1. Explaining the Politics of the Author -- Contributors -- IndexBeyond Description brings anthropologists and other social scientists together to examine the problem of explanation. What is "an explanation?" What can it add? What makes it authoritative, clarifying, or misleading? Whom does it serve and how is it produced? These questions lie at the heart of recent public crises of confidence in expertise, political representation, and classic liberal visions of whom we can rely on for true and trustworthy accounts. In a world beset by events and processes that seem to defy expert predictions of their impossibility, and in which post-hoc accounts can often feel more like rationalizations than explanations, competing voices vie for public presence and seek to silence one another. Anthropology and the social sciences face such questions too, making contemporary explanatory practice both an empirical and a reflexive challenge. By combining ethnographic studies of practices of explanation in a range of contemporary political, medical, artistic, religious, and bureaucratic settings, the essays in Beyond Description offer critical examinations of changing norms and forms of explanation in the world and within anthropology itself.SOCIAL SCIENCE / Anthropology / Cultural & Socialbisacshpolitical phenomenon, post-truth, cognitive therapy, empirical questions, ethnographic studies, examinations, anthropology, epistemological questions, philosophy, sociology, epistemology, interpretation, social analysis.SOCIAL SCIENCE / Anthropology / Cultural & Social.306.01Heywood Paolo1461384Candea Matei1107877MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910753379403321Beyond Description3667382UNINA
