Prompted by novelist Leïla Sebbar to reflect on their childhoods, these writers offer up a set of literary portraits that gesture to a universal condition while also shedding light on the exceptional nature of certain experiences. The childhoods captured here are undeniably Jewish, but they are also Moroccan, Algerian, Tunisian, Egyptian, Lebanese, and Turkish; each essay thus testifies to the multicultural, multilingual, and multi-faith communities into which its author was born. This translation makes this unique collection of essays available to a broad anglophone public for the first time. The original version, published in French in 2012, was awarded the Prix Haïm Zafrani, a prize given by the Elie Wiesel Institute of Jewish Studies to a literary project that valorizes Jewish civilization in the Muslim world.University of California series in Jewish history and cultures.RELIGION / Judaism / GeneralbisacshMediterranean RegionEthnic relationsRELIGION / Judaism / General.361.53Brozgal Liaauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut0Allouche Jean-Lucctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbAzoulay Andréctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBahloul Joëllectbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBehmoaras Lizictbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBensoussan Albertctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBouganim Amictbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBoukhobza Chochanactbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBrozgal Liactbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBénabou Marcelctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbChemla Patrickctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbCherki Alicectbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbCohen Rita Rachelctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbCohen-Massouda Mireillectbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbDadoun Rogerctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbElia Lucienctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbFarhi Morisctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbGlasberg Rebeccactbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbGoldmann Anniectbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbHaddad Hubertctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbHeller-Goldenberg Lucettectbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbKummer Idactbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMargulies Ronictbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMeller-Saïd Linectbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMesguich Danielctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMoati Ninectbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbNaouri Aldoctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbNathan Tobiectbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbPinhas-Delpuech Rosiectbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbRosenman Anny Dayanctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbSebbar Leïlactbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbSerfaty Nicole S.ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbSibony Danielctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbSitbon Guyctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbStora Benjaminctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbToledano Ralphctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbToubiana Danyctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbTurquier Yvesctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbDE-B1597DE-B1597996524970903316A Jewish Childhood in the Muslim Mediterranean3365956UNISA
