The transition to more just and sustainable development requires radical change across a wide range of areas and particularly within the nexus between learning and work. This book takes an expansive view of vocational education and training that goes beyond the narrow focus of much of the current literature and policy debate. Drawing on case studies across rural and urban settings in Uganda and South Africa, the book offers a new way of seeing this issue through an exploration of the multiple ways in which people learn to have better livelihoods. Crucially, it explores learning that takes place informally online, within farmers’ groups, and in public and private educational institutions. Offering new insights and ways of thinking about this field, the book draws out clear implications for theory, policy and practice in Africa and beyond.Bristol Studies in Comparative and International Education AfricabicsscDevelopment studiesbicsscIndustrial or vocational trainingbicsscAfrica; African education; Education; International development; Skills development; Sustainable development; Vocational education; Vocational trainingAfricaDevelopment studiesIndustrial or vocational trainingMcGrath Simon, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut1307816Adrupio Scovia, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autKyaligonja Bonaventure, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autLotz-Sisitka Heila, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autLotz-Sisitka Heila, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMcGrath Simon, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMetelerkamp Luke, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autMetelerkamp Luke, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMonk David, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autMonk David, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbNyeko Kenneth, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autOcan David, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autOpenjuru Ladaah George, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autOpenjuru George, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbP , authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autRamsarup Presha, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autRamsarup Presha, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbRobbins Glen, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autRusson Jo-Anna, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autRusson Jo-Anna, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbWedekind Volker, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autWedekind Volker, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbZeelen Jacques, authttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autZeelen Jacques, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbDE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK996524967903316Transitioning Vocational Education and Training in Africa3029023UNISA
