An Eldorado? Despite undeniable advantages, the new digital affordance of historical newspapers also transforms research practices and confronts historians with new challenges. Drawing on a growing community of practices, the impresso project invited scholars experienced with digitised newspaper collections with the aim of encouraging a discussion on heuristics, source criticism and interpretation of digitized newspapers. This volume provides a snapshot of current research on the subject and offers three perspectives: how digitisation is transforming access to and exploration of historical newspaper collections; how automatic content processing allows for the creation of new layers of information; and, finally, what analyses this enhanced material opens up. ‘impresso - Media Monitoring of the Past’ is an interdisciplinary research project that applies text mining tools to digitised historical newspapers and integrates the resulting data into historical research workflows by means of a newly developed user interface. The question of how best to adapt text mining tools and their use by humanities researchers is at the heart of the impresso enterprise.Studies in Digital History and Hermeneutics digital history.digital source criticism.digitized newspapers.history research practices.907.2Amstutz Irene, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBeavan David, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBeelen Kaspar, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBorg Alexandra, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBunout Estelle, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBunout Estelle, edthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtClavert Frédéric, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbClavert Frédéric, edthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtEdoff Erik, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbEhrmann Maud, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbEhrmann Maud, edthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtGaillard Claire-Lise, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbGuilbaud Perez Malorie, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbHanzig Christoph, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbHosseini Kasra, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbJarlbrink Johan, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbKergomard Zoé, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbKorman Rémi, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbKovarova-Simecek Monika, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbKreyenbühl Elias, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbKrivulskaya Suzanna, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbLanglais Pierre-Carl, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbLawrence Jon, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMagnusson Måns, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMcDonough Katherine, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMunke Martin, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbNorén Fredrik, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbOberbichler Sarah, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbPaju Petri, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbPfanzelter Eva, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbRantala Heli, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbReisacher Martin, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbResch Claudia, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbRobinet François, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbSalmi Hannu, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbThoß Michael, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbTolfo Giorgia, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbTorget Andrew J., ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbVane Olivia, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbWaldkirch Tobias von, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbWevers Melvin, ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbUniversity of Luxembourgfndhttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/fndDE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK996503570303316Digitised Newspapers – A New Eldorado for Historians3007869UNISA
