Indeed, easy and affordable tools for the safe management of biological fluids together with self-diagnosis have emerged as compulsory requirements in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, to lighten the pressure on public healthcare institutions and thus limiting the diffusion of infections. Obviously, other kinds of pathologies (cancer or other degenerative diseases) also continue to require attention, with progressively earlier and more widespread diagnoses. The contribution to the development of this research field comes from the areas of innovative plastic and 3D microfluidics, smart chemistry and the integration of miniaturized sensors, going in the direction of improving the performances of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) devices. In our Special Issue, we include papers describing easy strategies to identify diseases at the point-of-care and near-the-bed levels, but also dealing with innovative biomarkers, sample treatments, and chemistry processes which, in perspective, represent promising tools to be applied in the field.Emerging and Disruptive Next-Generation Technologies for POCBiology, life sciencesbicsscResearch & information: generalbicssc3D microfluidicsalternating current electroluminescent devicesamniotic epithelial cellsamperometric biosensorbiodetectionbody fluidscirculating tumor cellscornea regenerationdiagnostic toolfetal stem cellsglucoseglucose oxidaseisolation protocollabel-free sortinglight electrochemical cellslight emitting diodeslight-emitting e-textilesmicrofabricationmicromixersmolecular mechanismsn/ananotechnologyoral cancerplastic microfluidicspolymeric optical fibersquality controlsweattissue engineeringwearable sensorBiology, life sciencesResearch & information: generalChiriacò Maria Serenaedt1309616Ferrara FrancescoedtPrimiceri ElisabettaedtChiriacò Maria SerenaothFerrara FrancescoothPrimiceri ElisabettaothBOOK9910566460703321Emerging and Disruptive Next-Generation Technologies for POC: Sensors, Chemistry and Microfluidics for Diagnostics3029457UNINA04476nam 22007935 450 991029831980332120200703223102.03-642-54663-310.1007/978-3-642-54663-1(CKB)3710000000095062(EBL)1698382(OCoLC)881161783(SSID)ssj0001185957(PQKBManifestationID)11780158(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001185957(PQKBWorkID)11211343(PQKB)10570970(MiAaPQ)EBC1698382(DE-He213)978-3-642-54663-1(PPN)177822449(EXLCZ)99371000000009506220140327d2014 u| 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrOxidative Stress and Hormesis in Evolutionary Ecology and Physiology A Marriage Between Mechanistic and Evolutionary Approaches /by David Costantini1st ed. 2014.Berlin, Heidelberg :Springer Berlin Heidelberg :Imprint: Springer,2014.1 online resource (359 p.)Description based upon print version of record.3-642-54662-5 Includes bibliographical references and index.Historical and Contemporary Issues of Oxidative Stress, Hormesis and Life History Evolution -- Early Life Hormesis and Oxidative Experiences Fine-Tune the Adult Phenotype -- Variation in Oxidative Stress Threats and Hormesis Across Environments -- Nutritional Ecology, Foraging Strategies and Food Selection -- Coping with Physical Activity and Inactivity -- The Costs of Makeup in Sexual Selection and Social Signalling -- The Role of Oxidative Stress and Hormesis in Shaping Reproductive Strategies from Mating Systems to Parental Care -- Combating Parasites: Immune Response and Inflammation -- Variation Within and Among Species in Resistance to Oxidative Stress and Hormetic Responses -- Integrating Oxidative Stress and Hormesis into Research on Senescence and Survival Perspectives. This book discusses oxidative stress and hormesis from the perspective of an evolutionary ecologist or physiologist. In the first of ten chapters, general historical information, definitions, and background of research on oxidative stress physiology, hormesis, and life history are provided. Chapters 2-10 highlight the different solutions that organisms have evolved to cope with the oxidative threats posed by their environments and lifestyles. The author illustrates how oxidative stress and hormesis have shaped diversity in organism life-histories, behavioral profiles, morphological phenotypes, and aging mechanisms. The book offers fascinating insights into how organisms work and how they evolve to sustain their physiological functions under a vast array of environmental conditions.PhysiologyOxidative stressAnimal ecologyBiodiversityEvolution (Biology)Developmental biologyAnimal Physiologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L33030Oxidative Stresshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L16070Animal Ecologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L19015Biodiversityhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L19031Evolutionary Biologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L21001Developmental Biologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L18000Physiology.Oxidative stress.Animal ecology.Biodiversity.Evolution (Biology)Developmental biology.Animal Physiology.Oxidative Stress.Animal Ecology.Biodiversity.Evolutionary Biology.Developmental Biology.570571.1571.8571.9453Costantini Davidauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut1058820BOOK9910298319803321Oxidative Stress and Hormesis in Evolutionary Ecology and Physiology2502666UNINA04870nam 22006615 450 991037392670332120251225181954.03-030-39634-710.1007/978-3-030-39634-3(CKB)4100000010121957(DE-He213)978-3-030-39634-3(MiAaPQ)EBC6114276(PPN)242845223(EXLCZ)99410000001012195720200122d2020 u| 0engurnn#008mamaatxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierDigital Transformation for a Sustainable Society in the 21st Century I3E 2019 IFIP WG 6.11 International Workshops, Trondheim, Norway, September 18–20, 2019, Revised Selected Papers /edited by Ilias O.
