Zum Preisträger: Sir Ian Kershaw wurde 1943 in Oldham, Lancashire, geboren. Er studierte in Liverpool und Oxford. Nach Tätigkeiten an den Universitäten Manchester, Bochum und Nottingham lehrte er bis zu seiner Emeritierung 2008 als Professor für moderne Geschichte an der Universität Sheffield.
