Zellman, Christine Feifer, Amy E. HirschSanta Monica, CA RAND19921 online resource (xi, 92 pages)"R-4170-NCRVE/UCB.""Supported by the Office of Vocational and Adult Education, U.S. Department of Education.""NCRVE, National Center for Research in Vocational Education, Univerisity of California, Bekeley"--Cover.Includes bibliographical references (pages 87-92).The marginal economic status of single parent families argues for strong career development support for teen parents. Telephone data from 49 school districts and fieldwork data from 11 school-sponsored teen parent programs were collected concerning opportunities for and access to vocational education for teen parents who enroll in teen parent programs. Data revealed no formal barriers to vocational education for teen parents, whether or not they are enrolled in special programs. But access was limited in one-third of programs, and use of vocational education opportunities was low in most, regardless of access opportunities. Time-limited child care, transportation problems, conflicts between parenting and vocational education goals, and staff tendency to leave vocational education decisions to teen mothers reduce use. More active involvement by staff in promoting career planning is recommended.R (Rand Corporation) ;R-4170.Vocational education in teen parent programsTeenage mothersVocational educationUnited StatesTeenage parentsEducationUnited StatesTeenage mothersVocational educationfast(OCoLC)fst01145492Teenage parentsEducationfast(OCoLC)fst01145497United StatesfastTeenage mothersVocational educationTeenage parentsEducationTeenage mothersVocational education.Teenage parentsEducation.370.11/3Zellman Gail1235324Feifer Chris Naschak1263294Hirsch Amy1952-1263295Rand Corporation.United States.Office of Vocational and Adult Education.National Center for Research in Vocational Education (U.S.)UATUATOCLCOOCLCFOCLCQNUIUBYOCLCQCUSOCLCAOCLCQIQUWYU996322949303316Access to and use of vocational education in teen parent programs2960512UNISA
