The study examines the relations between the countries not only under the prevailing interpretation patterns of German revisionism and French security strivings, but also analyses to what extent "modern" foreign policy concepts have influenced the relationship between the two countries. "Modern" is understood as the revolution in international law initiated by American President Woodrow Wilson, which should rest on the pillars of democracy, collective security and free trade.
