Apprehending the archangel Michael --Conclusion --Bibliography --IndexThroughout the course of Byzantine history, Christian doctrine taught that angels have a powerful place in cosmology. It also taught that angels were immaterial, bodiless, invisible beings. But if that were the case, how could they be visualized and depicted in icons and other works of art? This book describes the strategies used by Byzantine artists to represent the incorporeal forms of angels and the rationalizations in defense of their representations mustered by theologians in the face of iconoclastic opposition. Glenn Peers demonstrates that these problems of representation provide a unique window on Late Antique thought in general.Transformation of the classical heritage ;32.IconoclasmByzantine EmpireHistoryAngelsBiblical teachingAngels in artAngels in literatureChurch historyMiddle Ages, 600-1500Byzantine EmpireChurch historyaesthetics.ancient world.angels in art.angels in literature.angels.archangel.art.barberini diptych.bible.bodies.byzantine art.byzantium.cherub.cherubim.church doctrine.divinity.early christian theology.early church.embodiment.folk belief.folk religion.greece.hagiography.hellenism.iconoclasm.icons.literature.madonna.magritte.michael.middle ages.religion.religious practices.saints legends.saints lives.saints.sarcophagus.theology.unrepresentable.virgin and child.IconoclasmHistory.AngelsBiblical teaching.Angels in art.Angels in literature.Church history235/.3/088219Peers Glenn256588MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK996248207603316Subtle bodies2320198UNISA04453nam 22005895 450 991059297910332120251009103011.09783031091018(electronic bk.)978303109100110.1007/978-3-031-09101-8(MiAaPQ)EBC7083331(Au-PeEL)EBL7083331(CKB)24814911500041(DE-He213)978-3-031-09101-8(EXLCZ)992481491150004120220909d2022 u| 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierBo Södersten from Left to Right Portrait of a Political Economist /by Mats Lundahl1st ed. 2022.Cham :Springer International Publishing :Imprint: Palgrave Macmillan,2022.1 online resource (191 pages)Palgrave Studies in the History of Economic Thought,2662-6586Print version: Lundahl, Mats Bo Södersten from Left to Right Cham : Springer International Publishing AG,c2022 9783031091001 Includes bibliographical references and index.1. Who Was He, Really?."Mats Lundahl has written a wonderful book about one of the most charismatic Swedish intellectuals of the 20th century." —Fredrik Sjöholm, Professor of Economics and CEO at the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN), Stockholm "Mats Lundahl has written a very thorough and lively story of my old favorite enemy Bo Södersten, a story which also brings to life the ideological march of the Swedish Social Democracy from Socialism to socially embedded capitalism." —Johan Lönnroth, Associate Professor Emeritus, Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg, Ex-Vice President of the Swedish Left Party "Mats Lundahl has written a wonderful book about this extraordinary person." —Karolina Ekholm, Professor of Economics, Stockholm University and Director General, Swedish National Debt Office This book explores the economic work and legacy of Bo Södersten. While best known internationally for his textbook International Economics, Södersten’s influence stretches well beyond this. Through his academic work and newspaper articles, he covered a wide spectrum of topics that often challenged conventional wisdom. By examining his work on housing, the labor-managed economy, development economics, nuclear power, childcare, and higher education, a full view of his diverse work is presented. This book aims to provide insight into the motivations and impact of Bo Södersten during each phase of his life: his academic career, his political life, and his time as a debater-provocateur. It will be relevant to students and researchers interested in Swedish economics, the history of economic thought, and international economics. Mats Lundahl is Professor emeritus of Development Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics, where he held his chair between 1987 and 2013.Palgrave Studies in the History of Economic Thought,2662-6586EconomicsHistoryEconomicsInternational economic relationsHistory of Economic Thought and MethodologyPolitical Economy and Economic SystemsInternational EconomicsEconomicsHistory.Economics.International economic relations.History of Economic Thought and Methodology.Political Economy and Economic Systems.International Economics.337330.092Lundahl Mats129849MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQ9910592979103321Bo Södersten from Left to Right2914708UNINA
