It approaches politico-religious ideological responses and structures of symbolism through the study of sacred landscapes, specific iconographic elements, and archaeological contexts and architecture, as well as through textual and epigraphic evidence. A fresh approach to the transition is put forward, connecting the island more emphatically with its longue durée. Moving beyond the field of Cypriot studies, this work also serves as a paradigm for the study of religion in relation to social power in other fields of classics and, in particular, for the enrolment of other areas of the Mediterranean into the political and cultural Hellenistic oikoumene.Mnemosyne, Supplements347.Religion and politicsCyprusReligion and sociologyCyprusArchaeology and religionCyprusIron ageCyprusBODY, MIND & SPIRIT / Spirituality / Paganism & Neo-PaganismbisacshRELIGION / Antiquities & ArchaeologybisacshCyprusAntiquitiesCyprusCivilizationMediterranean RegionCivilizationGreek influencesReligion and politicsReligion and sociologyArchaeology and religionIron ageBODY, MIND & SPIRIT / Spirituality / Paganism & Neo-PaganismRELIGION / Antiquities & Archaeology292.00939292.009393709014Papantoniou Giorgos721758NL-LeKBNL-LeKBBOOK996237243403316Religion and social transformations in Cyprus1410649UNISA03232nam 2200649Ia 450 991077857380332120230721023029.01-282-50534-3978661250534890-420-2663-410.1163/9789042026636(CKB)1000000000805844(EBL)556362(OCoLC)462136103(SSID)ssj0000258619(PQKBManifestationID)12098125(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000258619(PQKBWorkID)10271851(PQKB)11468066(MiAaPQ)EBC556362(OCoLC)462136103(OCoLC)649903211(OCoLC)764535913(OCoLC)961492434(OCoLC)962625014(OCoLC)966119334(OCoLC)988528415(OCoLC)991916410(nllekb)BRILL9789042026636(Au-PeEL)EBL556362(CaPaEBR)ebr10380185(CaONFJC)MIL250534(EXLCZ)99100000000080584420090925d2009 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrThinking about addiction[electronic resource] hyperbolic discounting and responsible agency /Craig Hanson; with a chapter by George AinslieAmsterdam ;New York, NY Rodopic20091 online resource (155 p.)Value inquiry book series ;209Description based upon print version of record.90-420-2662-6 Includes bibliographical references and index.Preliminary Material -- PHILOSOPHICAL PERSPECTIVES ON THEORIES OF ADDICTION -- ADDICTION FROM THE BEHAVIORAL ECONOMIST’S POINT-OF-VIEW -- AINSLIEAN SELVES -- SELF-DECEPTION -- TOWARD THE RATIONALITY OF BUNDLING -- RESPONSIBILITY -- RESPONSIBILITY IN A REDUCTIONIST MODEL /George Ainslie -- WORKS CITED -- ABOUT THE AUTHORS -- INDEX -- VIBS.What is addiction? Why do some people become addicted while others do not? Is the addict rational? In this book, Craig Hanson attempts to answer these questions and more. Using insights from the beginnings of philosophy to contemporary behavioral economics, Hanson attempts to assess the variety of ways in which we can and cannot, understand addiction. Special consideration is given to a challenging (and controversial) proposal dubbed “hyperbolic discounting.” Hanson proposes some modifications to the hyperbolic discounting view that permit it to explain not only addiction, but also a variety of psychological maladies, such as self-deception.Value inquiry book series ;v. 209.Value inquiry book series.Social philosophy.Substance abusePsychological aspectsCompulsive behaviorPsychological aspectsSubstance abusePsychological aspects.Compulsive behaviorPsychological aspects.616.86Hanson CraigPh.
