During the early years of the NFB, its creative output was largely informed by the turbulent political and social climate the world was facing. World War II, Communism, unemployment, the role of labour unions, and working conditions were all subjects featured by the NFB during the period from 1939 to 1946. In Filming Politics, author Malek Khouri explores the work of the NFB during this period and argues that the political discourse of the films produced by this institution offered a counter-hegemonic portrayal of working class people and presented them as agents of social change. These films also saw an organic link between Canadian struggles for social progress, in the war against fascism and for peace, and those promoted at the time by the Soviet Union. Khouri also analyzes the various social, institutional, and political elements that contributed to the formation of the NFB's discourse. Filming Politics brings to light a number of films from the early years of the NFB, most of which have long been forgotten. Khouri presents a thorough reading of these films and the historical context within which they were produced and viewed. As such he proposes a radically new outlook on the films from how they have been appropriated in previous studies on Canadian cinema.Filming PoliticsPolitics in motion picturesPolitics in motion pictures.Khouri Malek802015UkMaJRUBOOK9910141752203321Filming politics2109984UNINA01944nam 2200397 450 99620132600331620231103220423.00-674-99215-6(CKB)3820000000011959(NjHacI)993820000000011959(EXLCZ)99382000000001195920231103d1927 uy 0engur|||||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierAttic NightsVolume IBooks 1-5 /Gellius, J. C. RolfeCambridge :Harvard University Press,1927.1 online resource (528 pages)Loeb classical library ;LCL195Aulus Gellius (ca. 123-170 CE) is known almost wholly from his Noctes Atticae, 'Attic Nights', so called because it was begun during the nights of an Attic winter. The work collects in twenty books (of Book VIII only the index is extant) interesting notes covering philosophy, history, biography, all sorts of antiquities, points of law, literary criticism, and lexicographic matters, explanations of old words and questions of grammar. The work is valuable because of its many excerpts from other authors whose works are lost; and because of its evidence for people's manners and occupations. Some at least of the dramatic settings may be genuine occasions. The Loeb Classical Library edition of Attic Nights is in three volumes.Loeb classical library ;LCL195.Verse satire, LatinTranslations into EnglishLatin lettersTranslations into EnglishVerse satire, LatinTranslations into English.Latin lettersTranslations into English.876.01Gellius811269Rolfe J.
