Modern Developments --Notes --Bibliography --IndexJuxtaposing Muslim scholars' debates over women's attendance in mosques with historical descriptions of women's activities within Middle Eastern and North African mosques, Marion Holmes Katz shows how over the centuries legal scholars' arguments have often reacted to rather than dictated Muslim women's behavior. Tracing Sunni legal positions on women in mosques from the second century of the Islamic calendar to the modern period, Katz connects shifts in scholarly terminology and argumentation to changing constructions of gender. Over time, assumptions about women's changing behavior through the lifecycle gave way to a global preoccupation with sexual temptation, which then became the central rationale for limits on women's mosque access. At the same time, travel narratives, biographical dictionaries, and religious polemics suggest that women's usage of mosque space often diverged in both timing and content from the ritual models constructed by scholars. Katz demonstrates both the concrete social and political implications of Islamic legal discourse and the autonomy of women's mosque-based activities. She also examines women's mosque access as a trope in Western travelers' narratives and the evolving significance of women's mosque attendance among different Islamic currents in the twentieth century.Women (Islamic law)Mosques (Islamic law)Women in IslamElectronic books.Women (Islamic law)Mosques (Islamic law)Women in Islam.297.3/51082Katz Marion Holmes1967-698258Wannemacher JordanMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910465442003321Women in the mosque2487496UNINA01778cam--2200493---450 99000578532020331620221027130923.0978-88-6648-090-7978-88-6648-100-3(vol. 1)978-88-6648-099-0(vol. 2)000578532USA01000578532(ALEPH)000578532USA0100057853220121129d2012----km-y0itay5003----baitaengITa|||||||001yyMarina Abramovića cura di Diego Sileo, Eugenio ViolaMilano24 ore cultura20122 volumi (205; 95 p.)ill.29 cmPubblicato in occasione della mostra tenuta al PAC, Padiglione d'arte contemporanea di Milano, dal 21 marzo al 10 giugno 2012In copertina: PAC, Padiglione d'arte contemporaneaIn custodiaVol. 1: Italian worksVol. 2: The Abramović method : a tutto il mio pubblico = to all my public<<Vol. 1:>> Italian works<<Vol. 2:>> <<The>> Abramović methodAbramović,MarinaCataloghi di esposizioniBNCF709.2SILEO,DiegoVIOLA,Eugenio<1975- >ABRAMOVIĆ,MarinaPAC<Padiglione d'arte contemporanea>ITsalbcISBD990005785320203316XII.2.C. 2226 1238955 L.M.XII.2.00317802XII.2.C. 2226 2238955/A L.M.XII.2.00317801BKUMAPASSARO9020121129USA011327PASSARO9020121129USA011328PASSARO9020121129USA011331Marina Abramović1081479UNISA
