This book presents, translates and comments the Suan shu shu 算數書, a Chinese manuscript of the 2nd century BCE excavated during the winter 1983-84. Its discovery challenged what was known of the ancient sources of the mathematics in China. The translation and commentaries help understand the text and its context, they connect the archaeology of excavated texts, old Chinese, the history of mathematics and the life in China under the Han.
