The translator of this work was Ṭodros Ṭodrosi, the main Hebrew translator of Avicenna’s philosophical writings. This study includes a critical edition of Ṭodrosi’s translation, based on two manuscripts as compared to the Arabic edition (Cairo, 1938), and an appendix featuring the section on metaphysics. By analyzing Ṭodrosi’s language and terminology and making his Hebrew translation available for the first time, Berzin’s study will help enable scholars to trace the borrowings from Todrosi’s translations in Jewish sources, shedding light on the transmission and impact of Avicenna’s philosophy.Islamic philosophy, theology, and science ;Volume 91.Translating and interpretingHistoryTo 1500Arabic literature750-1258Translations into HebrewHebrew literature, MedievalHistory and criticismPsychologyMetaphysicsElectronic books.Translating and interpretingHistoryArabic literatureHebrew literature, MedievalHistory and criticism.Psychology.Metaphysics.181/.5Berzin Gabriella863789MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910463640803321Avicenna in medieval Hebrew translation1927910UNINA04616nam 22007455 450 991029829480332120200704094112.01-4939-1468-510.1007/978-1-4939-1468-5(CKB)3710000000329644(EBL)1965068(OCoLC)899211259(SSID)ssj0001424560(PQKBManifestationID)11748708(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001424560(PQKBWorkID)11363425(PQKB)11630414(DE-He213)978-1-4939-1468-5(MiAaPQ)EBC1965068(PPN)183516605(EXLCZ)99371000000032964420150102d2015 u| 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrPhotobiology The Science of Light and Life /edited by Lars Olof Björn3rd ed. 2015.New York, NY :Springer New York :Imprint: Springer,2015.1 online resource (453 p.)Description based upon print version of record.1-4939-1467-7 Includes bibliographical references and index. The Nature of Light and Its Interaction with Matter -- Principles and Nomenclature for the Quantification of Light -- Generation and Control of Light -- The Measurement of Light -- Light as a Tool for Biologists: Recent Developments -- Terrestrial Daylight -- Underwater Light -- Action Spectroscopy in Biology -- Spectral Tuning in Biology I: Pigments -- Spectral Tuning in Biology II: Structural Color -- Photoactive Proteins -- Molecules and Photochemical Reactions in Biological Light Perception and Regulation -- Photoreceptive Proteins and Their Evolution -- Signaling Crosstalk under the Control of Plant Photoreceptors -- The Diversity of Eye Optics -- The Evolution of Photosynthesis and Its Environmental Impact -- Photosynthetic Light Harvesting -- How Light Resets Circadian Clocks -- Photomorphogenesis and Photoperiodism in Plants -- The Light-Dependent Magnetic Compass -- Phototoxicity -- Ozone Depletion and the Effects of Ultraviolet Radiation -- Vitamin D: Photobiological and Ecological Aspects -- The Photobiology of Human Skin -- Light-Promoted Infection -- Bioluminescence -- Role of Ultraviolet Radiation in the Origin of Life -- Hints for Teaching Experiments and Demonstrations -- The Amateur Scientist’s Spectrophotometer. The new edition of this authoritative text provides an interdisciplinary treatise of all aspects of the interactions between light and the living world. It starts with a description of the physics of light, and how to deal with it in experiments and observations. The phenomena described in the rest of the book covers all organisms: how light is used by organisms for obtaining energy for life processes, for gathering information about the environment, and for communicating with others of the same or other species. The book also describes "bad" effects of light in causing disease or contributing to formation of environmental toxins. New techniques used by scientists to investigate life processes using light are also explored in the volume. Written by experts in the field, Photobiology: The Science of Life and Light, 3e is a valuable and accessible resource for both advanced undergraduates and established researchers.BotanyBotanyPlant anatomyPlantsDevelopmentEvolution (Biology)Plant physiologyPlant Scienceshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L24000Plant Anatomy/Developmenthttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L24019Evolutionary Biologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L21001Plant Physiologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L33020Botany.Botany.Plant anatomy.PlantsDevelopment.Evolution (Biology)Plant physiology.Plant Sciences.Plant Anatomy/Development.Evolutionary Biology.Plant Physiology.570571.2571.32576.8Björn Lars Olofedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtBOOK9910298294803321Photobiology2499295UNINA
