List of Abbreviations -- IndexBodies and their role in cultural discourse have been a constant focus in the humanities and social sciences in recent years, but comparatively few studies exist about Old Norse-Icelandic or early Irish literature. This study aims to redress this imbalance and presents carefully contextualised close readings of medieval texts. The chapters focus on the role of bodies in mediality discourse in various contexts: that of identity in relation to ideas about self and other, of inscribed and marked skin and of natural bodily matters such as defecation, urination and menstruation. By carefully discussing the sources in their cultural contexts, it becomes apparent that medieval Scandinavian and early Irish texts present their very own ideas about bodies and their role in structuring the narrated worlds of the texts. The study presents one of the first systematic examinations of bodies in these two literary traditions in terms of body criticism and emphasises the ingenuity and complexity of medieval texts.Trends in medieval philology ;Volume 31.Old Norse literatureHistory and criticismLiterature, MedievalThemes, motivesElectronic books.Old Norse literatureHistory and criticism.Literature, MedievalThemes, motives.839.609Künzler Sarah1035880MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910467393803321Flesh and word2455821UNINA03104nam 22005293u 450 991078669480332120230124191154.01-315-42133-X1-61132-897-7(CKB)3710000000133993(EBL)1716281(OCoLC)881608072(MiAaPQ)EBC1716281(EXLCZ)99371000000013399320151005d2014|||| u|| |engur|n|---|||||Qualitative Inquiry Outside the Academy[electronic resource]Walnut Creek Left Coast Press20141 online resource (337 p.)Intl Congress of Qualitative Inquiry ;v.9Description based upon print version of record.1-61132-895-0 ""Contents""; ""Acknowledgments""; ""Introduction: Qualitative Inquiry â€?Outsideâ€? the Academy - Norman K. The original chapters engage in debate on how qualitative research can be best used to advance the causes of social justice while addressing racial, ethnic, gender, and environmental disparities in education, welfare, and health care. Twenty contributors from six countries and multiple academic disciplines present models, cases, and experiences to show how qualitative research can be used as an Intl Congress of Qualitative InquiryInquiry (Theory of knowledge)Qualitative researchSocial advocacySOCIAL SCIENCE / MethodologyInquiry (Theory of knowledge).Qualitative research.Social advocacy.SOCIAL SCIENCE / Methodology.001.4001.4/2001.42Denzin Norman K27745Giardina Michael D1148074AU-PeELAU-PeELAU-PeELBOOK9910786694803321Qualitative Inquiry Outside the Academy3806560UNINA
