The six-year study secured multi-setting field data in primary, secondary and casual sites, and audio-taped narrative life stories from men and women who harvest and perform the related tasks that help to make the many foods which we enjoy in abundance. The study presented in this book elaborates vignettes from field observations with a focus on workers who use drugs and alcohol, and is complemented by formal (narrative life stories) and informal interviews. The author explores diverse field data that reveal the hardships, exclusion and social adversities that migrant farm workers experience many times more often than any other social group with considerable susceptibility to drug / alcohol use. Down Country Lanes, Behind Abandoned Houses gives readers a perspective about farm workers' social vulnerability across multiple agricultural areas, while comparing willful neglect and social non-existence experienced by farm workers to a gray zone of contemporary horrors in the way that these men and women have been viewed and treated over many decades. The monograph is an invaluable reference for the study of social problems, substance abuse, trans-national migratory experiences and field methods in sociology. The book also serves as a contemporary handbook on the anthropology of American agricultural labor.EthnologySocial anthropologyMigrant Agricultural LaborersAgricultureSocial ScienceTechnology & EngineeringEthnology.Social anthropology.331.5440973Bletzer Keith V1643680MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910812493403321Down Country Lanes, Behind Abandoned Houses3989081UNINA00913nam0 22002531i 450 UON0042140420231205104824.80820130327d1939 |0itac50 baengGB|||| 1||||ˆThe ‰Labyrinth of EuropeMichael BurnLondonMethuen1939xi, 307 p.23 cm.Letteratura ingleseSec. 20.UONC076988FIGBLondonUONL003044823.9Narrativa inglese. 1900-21BURNMichaelUONV214819438801ITSOL20250704RICASIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOUONSIUON00421404SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI Angl VI C 0041 SI MR 11262 5 0041 BuonoLabyrinth of Europe1333801UNIOR05453nam 2200685Ia 450 991101937680332120200520144314.09786611764333978128176433112817643379783527617258352761725697835276172653527617264(CKB)1000000000377447(EBL)481755(SSID)ssj0000220249(PQKBManifestationID)11218550(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000220249(PQKBWorkID)10142609(PQKB)11035235(MiAaPQ)EBC481755(OCoLC)212139559(Perlego)2772927(EXLCZ)99100000000037744719960502d1997 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrPerspectives in quantum Hall effects novel quantum liquids in low-dimensional semiconductor structures /edited by Sankar Das Sarma, Aron PinczukNew York Wileyc19971 online resource (446 p.)Description based upon print version of record.9780471112167 047111216X Includes bibliographical references and index.PERSPECTIVES IN QUANTUM HALL EFFECTS; CONTENTS; Contributors; Preface; 1 Localization, Metal-Insulator Transitions, and Quantum Hall Effect; 1.1. Broken SymmetriesThe discovery of the quantized and fractional Quantum Hall Effect phenomena is among the most important physics findings in the latter half of this century. The precise quantization of the electrical resistance involved in the quantized Hall effect phenomena has led to the new definition of the resistance standard and has metrologically affected all of science and technology. This resource consists of contributions from the top researchers in the field who present recent experimental and theoretical developments.
