Lecture Notes in Mathematics ;Volume 1413Bibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph3-540-52130-5 Based on lectures delivered to the Seminar on Operator Algebras at Oakland University during the Winter semesters of 1985 and 1986, these notes are a detailed exposition of recent work of A. Connes and U. Haagerup which together constitute a proof that all injective factors of type III1 which act on a separable Hilbert space are isomorphic. This result disposes of the final open case in the classification of the separably acting injective factors, and is one of the outstanding recent achievements in the theory of operator algebras. The notes will be of considerable interest to specialists in operator algebras, operator theory and workers in allied areas such as quantum statistical mechanics and the theory of group representations.Lecture notes in mathematics (Springer-Verlag) ;Volume 1413.Von Neumann algebrasFactors (Algebra)Von Neumann algebras.Factors (Algebra)512.55Wright Steve(Steve J.),1253541MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK996466616303316Uniqueness of the injective III1 factor2906388UNISA00992nam0 22002531i 450 UON0021344520231205103344.17486-7260-001-020030730d1996 |0itac50 basccFREYU|||| |||||Esej o Crnoj GoriEssai sur le MonténégroAlis Noltprevod Vera Milic; pripedili Branislav Kovacevic, Radosav MilicPodgoricaNarodna Biblioteka "Radosav Ljumovic"1996VI, 71, VI, 69 p.20 cm.MONTENEGROUONC044810FI949.745Montenegro Storia21NOLTAlisUONV128830683336ITSOL20240220RICASIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOUONSIUON00213445SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI SERBO CROATO A 0657 SI EO 29905 5 0657 Esej o Crnoj Gori1263217UNIOR04191nam 22005535 450 991029951170332120240322043623.09783319640167331964016X10.1007/978-3-319-64016-7(CKB)3780000000451162(DE-He213)978-3-319-64016-7(MiAaPQ)EBC4987096(EXLCZ)99378000000045116220170824d2018 u| 0engurnn|008mamaatxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierAssessing the Viva in Higher Education Chasing Moments of Truth /by Stephen Dobson1st ed. 2018.Cham :Springer International Publishing :Imprint: Springer,2018.1 online resource (XXIII, 194 p. 8 illus.) As an oral assessment of a treatise or dissertation or of a student’s performance in art or dance the viva has a long history dating back to the time of the Greeks. It can be found today in the form of professional, vocational and academic vivas, where a judgment of oral performance is required to gain entry into a profession or community of scholars. In a time when there are scandals about students selling essays to other students, the viva provides a fertile ground for probing the student to see whether they are in fact the authors of the work being assessed and know its content and how to think cognitively or otherwise. Given that we actually know so little about the viva, the book theorises the viva based on a unique sample of vivas that have been filmed or in which the author himself has been participant, and discusses why its format is so different in Anglo-Saxon languages and Latin and other languages. The book offers educational policy-makers and examiners a trade-off between arguments in support of the viva and the demand for other, ever more cost-effective forms of assessment as the numbers of both undergraduate and postgraduate students threaten to increase. It also argues that with demand in the labour market for qualified graduates who are better equipped with transferable skills, such as the ability to communicate complex ideas verbally in a competent, well-argued fashion and not merely through the use of rhetoric, what appear to be cost-effective forms of assessment in the short run (e.g. written exams with standardised questions or multiple choice) may actually in the long run be of less value if we are investing in a future workforce with so-called 21st century communication skills. If the viva were abandoned, the student would be robbed of the opportunity to stage a defence. The Enabling Power of Assessment,2198-2651 ;6Educational tests and measurementsEducation, HigherEducationPhilosophyAssessment and TestingHigher EducationEducational PhilosophyEducational tests and measurements.Education, Higher.EducationPhilosophy.Assessment and Testing.Higher Education.Educational Philosophy.371.26Dobson Stephenauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut415913BOOK9910299511703321Assessing the Viva in Higher Education2523946UNINA
