In this wide-ranging and elegantly written study, Houston argues that the avoidance of 'unclean' foods is a mark of the exclusive devotion of Israel to one god. In a concluding chapter, it is suggested that the abolition of the distinction in early Christianity corresponds to the universal horizon of the new faith. The Library of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament StudiesJewsDietary lawsBiblical teachingJudaismEthicsAnimals in the BibleFood in the BibleJewsDietary lawsBiblical teaching.JudaismEthics.Animals in the Bible.Food in the Bible.296.7/3/0901Houston Walter675250MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910782473603321Purity and monotheism1281273UNINA01220nam0 22002891i 450 UON0019216920231205103219.53407-10-81368-620030730d1990 |0itac50 baengGB|||| 1||||Negotiations with paradoxnarrative practice and narrative form in Bunyan and DefoeStuart SimNew York [etc.]Harvester Wheatsheaf1990xi, 217 p.23 cm.DEFOE DANIELUONC039481FIBUNYAN JOHNUONC040680FIUSNew YorkUONL000050820Letteratura inglese e antico inglese21SIMStuartUONV134963144074Harvester WheatsheafUONV265637650ITSOL20240220RICAUON00192169SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI Angl IV B DEF SIM SI LO 45749 5 SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI Angl IV B DEF SIM bis SI LO 45906 5 bis Negotiations with paradox1293418UNIOR
