The chapters of the book attempt to answer a number of essential questions in relation to global warming and climate change. He begins by showing how the earth’s climate has varied in the past, discussing ice ages, the Holocene period since the end of the last ice age, particularly during the past 1000 years. He investigates the reliability of "proxies" for historical temperatures and assesses the hockey stick version of global temperatures for the past millennium. To do this effectively he looks carefully at how well near surface temperatures of land and ocean on earth have been monitored during the past 100 years or more, and looks at the utility and significance of a single global average temperature. Topics such as the variability of the Sun and the Earth’s heat balance are discussed in considerable detail. The author also investigates how the current global warming trend compares with past fluctuations in earth’s climate and what is the likelihood that the warming trend we are experiencing now is primarily just another in a series of natural climate fluctuations as opposed to a direct result of human activities. A key factor in understanding what may happen in the future is to examine the credibility of the global climate models which claim that greenhouse gasses produce most of the temperature rise of the 20th Century, and forecast much greater impacts in the century ahead. Finally, the book considers future global energy requirements, fossil fuel usage and carbon dioxide production, public policy relating to global warming, and agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol.Springer-Praxis books in environmental sciences.Climatic changesEarth temperatureGlobal temperature changesSolar radiationGreenhouse gasesEnvironmental aspectsClimatic changes.Earth temperature.Global temperature changes.Solar radiation.Greenhouse gasesEnvironmental aspects.551.6Rapp Donald1934-302096MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910784779603321Assessing climate change226225UNINA01139nam0 22002771i 450 UON0014668520231205102904.14620020107d1995 |0itac50 baitaIT|||| |||||ˆLe ‰origini degli alimenti e la loro conservazione nel mondoRoma : Museo Europeostampa 1995178 p.ill. ; 31 cmIn testa al front.: Museo EuropeoMuseo Lombardo di Storia dell'AgricolturaALIMENTAZIONEEsposizioniUONC031772FIALIMENTIConservazioneEsposizioniUONC031785FIITRomaUONL000004363.883ALIMENTAZIONE - Studi21Museo europeo <Roma>UONV264113650ITSOL20240220RICASIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOUONSIUON00146685SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI GLOTT AGAM 037 SI MC 24788 5 Origini degli alimenti e la loro conservazione nel mondo1277140UNIOR01770nam 2200433 450 991082816450332120230809230125.01-941411-40-1(CKB)3840000000340960(MiAaPQ)EBC4810170(Au-PeEL)EBL4810170(CaPaEBR)ebr11628568(OCoLC)1003208360(EXLCZ)99384000000034096020220520d2017 uy 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierAnimals strike curious poses /Elena PassarelloLouisville, Kentucky :Sarabande Books,[2017]©20171 online resource (214 pages)1-941411-39-8 Includes bibliographical references.Intro -- Title Page -- Copyright -- Dedication -- Contents -- Yuka (39,000 BP) -- The Wolf of Gubbio (1207) -- Ganda (1515) -- Sackerson (1601) -- Jeoffry (1760) -- Vogel Staar (1784) -- Harriet (1835) -- War Pigs (1870-2012) -- Jumbo II (1901) -- Four Horsemen (1904-2012) -- Mike (1945) -- Arabella (1973) -- Lancelot (1985) -- Koko (1988) -- Osama (1998) -- Celia (2003) -- Cecil (2015) -- Notes -- Acknowledgments -- Bibliography -- About the Author. With exuberant wit, Elena Passarello casts her gaze on famous historical animals, crafting an essay collection organized as medieval bestiary.Famous animalsFamous animals.814.6Passarello Elena1667656MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910828164503321Animals strike curious poses4027643UNINA
