Mathematically mature but in its infancy as far as engineering uses are concerned, fractional calculus is the basis of the methods chosen for system analysis and modelling. This reflects two decades’ worth of conceptual development which is now suitable for bringing to bear in biomedical engineering. The text reveals the latest trends in modelling and identification of human respiratory parameters with a view to developing diagnosis and monitoring technologies. Of special interest is the notion of fractal structure which is indicative of the large-scale biological efficiency of the pulmonary system. The related idea of fractal dimension represents the adaptations in fractal structure caused by environmental factors, notably including disease. These basics are linked to model the dynamical patterns of breathing as a whole. The ideas presented in the book are validated using real data generated from healthy subjects and respiratory patients and rest on non-invasive measurement methods. The Human Respiratory System will be of interest to applied mathematicians studying the modelling of biological systems, to clinicians with interests outside the traditional borders of medicine, and to engineers working with technologies of either direct medical significance or for mitigating changes in the respiratory system caused by, for example, high-altitude or deep-sea environments.Series in bioengineering.RespirationRespiratory organsPathophysiologyMechanical impedanceRespiration.Respiratory organsPathophysiology.Mechanical impedance.612.2Ionescu Clara Mihaela1060093MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910438059703321The Human Respiratory System2510988UNINA03870nam 22005895 450 991059006670332120251009103347.09783031115974(electronic bk.)978303111596710.1007/978-3-031-11597-4(MiAaPQ)EBC7078061(Au-PeEL)EBL7078061(CKB)24748187500041(DE-He213)978-3-031-11597-4(EXLCZ)992474818750004120220826d2022 u| 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierThe Anglican Church in Malaysia Evolving Concepts, Challenging Contexts, Emerging Subtexts /by Edward Jarvis1st ed. 2022.Cham :Springer International Publishing :Imprint: Palgrave Macmillan,2022.1 online resource (214 pages)Print version: Jarvis, Edward The Anglican Church in Malaysia Cham : Springer International Publishing AG,c2022 9783031115967 Includes bibliographical references and index.1. Afterword. This book examines the Anglican Church in Malaysia from multiple angles, unpacking its history from British colonialism to today’s Muslim-majority Asian nation. Analyzing tense Christian-Muslim dialogue and volatile intercommunity relations, themes of ethnicity, identity, gender, and multiculturalism intersect in contexts of war, insurgency, and national independence. The Church’s two centuries of history unfold chronologically, but this study goes far beyond mere description of events; it is a critical, multidisciplinary, multilayered discussion that integrates contemporary, archival, and scholarly perspectives. It focuses on high-pressure interfaces between colonialists, clergy, sultans, indigenous, and immigrant groups. The roles of education and healthcare—as evangelism, or perhaps incentivization—are investigated, within evolving models of mission, conversion, and the broader context of Anglicanism in crisis. These diverse threads intertwine to produce a concisebut comprehensive three-dimensional portrait of the Anglican Church in Malaysia.TheologyChristianity and the social sciencesChristian sociologySoutheast AsiaHistoryChristian TheologySocial Scientific Studies of ChristianityHistory of Southeast AsiaTheology.Christianity and the social sciences.Christian sociology.Southeast AsiaHistory.Christian Theology.Social Scientific Studies of Christianity.History of Southeast Asia.283283.595Jarvis Edward544749MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQ9910590066703321The Anglican Church in Malaysia2908664UNINA
