The scenario is getting even more detrimental with increasing number of affected people and newer sites reported from all over the world. Apart from drinking water, the presence of arsenic has been found in various other dietary sources. Threatening the health of millions of people due to arsenic’s toxicity and carcinogenicity, the major routes of arsenic exposure for humans are either through drinking water or crops. This edited volume brings together a diverse group of environmental science, sustainability, and health researchers to address the challenges posed by global mass poisoning caused by arsenic water contamination. The book sheds light on this global environmental issue and proposes solutions to aquatic contamination through multi-disciplinary sustainable approaches and case studies from different parts of world. This book addresses the problem of arsenic by pursuing a holistic approach. It presents the status quo in different parts of the world and provides essential information on food-related arsenic exposure risks for humans and possible preventive and curative measures for tackling arsenic poisoning. The mechanisms of arsenic uptake, translocation, and distribution in plants and grains are also explained. In closing, the book reviews a variety of prospective sustainable solutions to the problem of arsenic accumulation in soil and water. The book comprises three sections. First section describes the routes of exposure to environmental arsenic and its transport in soil and aquatic ecosystems including its source and distribution in specific locations. Second section explains the health risks linked to arsenic exposure in food and the environment. Third section addresses sustainable arsenic contamination mitigation strategies using the potential applications of recent biotechnological techniques, bioremediation, phytoremediation, genetic engineering, nanotechnology, and in silico approaches. The book is intended for a broad audience including researchers, scientists, and readers with diverse backgrounds including agriculture, environmental science, food science, environmental management, and human health. It can also be used as an important reference guide for undergraduate and graduate students, university faculties, and environmentalists. The book may serve as a reference to environment and sustainability researchers, students, and policy makers.Environmental Science and Engineering,1863-5539Environmental managementBiochemical engineeringEnvironmental engineeringBiotechnologyBioremediationEnvironmental healthToxicologyEnvironmental ManagementBioprocess EngineeringEnvironmental Engineering/BiotechnologyEnvironmental HealthToxicologyEnvironmental management.Biochemical engineering.Environmental engineering.Biotechnology.Bioremediation.Environmental health.Toxicology.Environmental Management.Bioprocess Engineering.Environmental Engineering/Biotechnology.Environmental Health.Toxicology.333.7628.162Kumar Nitish1424017Kumar Sanjeev1355716MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910743685503321Arsenic Toxicity Remediation: Biotechnological Approaches3564174UNINA04832nam 22005895 450 991034932390332120200706095610.03-030-17775-010.1007/978-3-030-17775-1(CKB)4100000008618275(MiAaPQ)EBC5811851(DE-He213)978-3-030-17775-1(PPN)238490572(EXLCZ)99410000000861827520190703d2019 u| 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierModels for Tropical Climate Dynamics Waves, Clouds, and Precipitation /by Boualem Khouider1st ed. 2019.Cham :Springer International Publishing :Imprint: Springer,2019.1 online resource (308 pages)Mathematics of Planet Earth,2524-4264 ;33-030-17774-2 Part I Background and Preliminaries: Chapter 1- The Governing Equations and Dry Dynamics -- Chapter 2- Moisture and moist thermodynamics -- Chapter 3- Observations of tropical climate dynamics and convectively coupled waves -- Chapter 4- Introduction to stochastic processes, Markov chains, and Monte Carlo Simulation -- Part II The Deterministic Multicloud Model: Chapter 5- Simple models for moist gravity waves -- Chapter 6- The Multicloud Model with Congestus Preconditioning -- Chapter 7- Convectively Coupled Equatorial Waves in the Multicloud Model -- Chapter 8- Convective Momentum Transport and Upscale Interactions in the MJO -- Chapter 9- Implementation of the Multicloud Model in an Aquaplanet Global Climate Model -- Part III The Stochastic Multicloud Model: SMCM: Chapter 10- Stochastic birth and death models for clouds -- Chapter 11- Implementation of the SMCM in a Global Climate Model -- Chapter 12- SMCM in CFS: Improving the tropical modes of variability -- Glossary -- References. This book is a survey of the research work done by the author over the last 15 years, in collaboration with various eminent mathematicians and climate scientists on the subject of tropical convection and convectively coupled waves. In the areas of climate modelling and climate change science, tropical dynamics and tropical rainfall are among the biggest uncertainties of future projections. This not only puts at risk billions of human beings who populate the tropical continents but it is also of central importance for climate predictions on the global scale. This book aims to introduce the non-expert readers in mathematics and theoretical physics to this fascinating topic in order to attract interest into this difficult and exciting research area. The general thyme revolves around the use of new deterministic and stochastic multi-cloud models for tropical convection and convectively coupled waves. It draws modelling ideas from various areas of mathematics and physics and used in conjunction with state-of-the-art satellite and in-situ observations and detailed numerical simulations. After a review of preliminary material on tropical dynamics and moist thermodynamics, including recent discoveries based on satellite observations as well as Markov chains, the book immerses the reader into the area of models for convection and tropical waves. It begins with basic concepts of linear stability analysis and ends with the use of these models to improve the state-of-the-art global climate models. The book also contains a fair amount of exercises that makes it suitable as a textbook complement on the subject.Mathematics of Planet Earth,2524-4264 ;3Mathematical physicsAtmospheric scienceComputer simulationClimateMathematical Applications in the Physical Scienceshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M13120Atmospheric Scienceshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/G36000Simulation and Modelinghttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I19000Climate, generalhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/300000Mathematical physics.Atmospheric science.Computer simulation.Climate.Mathematical Applications in the Physical Sciences.Atmospheric Sciences.Simulation and Modeling.Climate, general.551.6913551.6913Khouider Boualemauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut781387BOOK9910349323903321Models for Tropical Climate Dynamics1732592UNINA
