Malet's writing was intrinsically linked to her passion for art. Her novels reference contemporary paintings and her - often subversive - interpretations of them. The language of the visual arts is used as a literary device, disrupting the narrative structure and creating a deliberate stylistic tension.
This is the first book-length study of Malet's novels. Four works are discussed, spanning her writing career; Mrs Lorimer (1882), The Wages of Sin (1890), The History of Sir Richard Calmady (1901) and The Survivors (1923). Delyfer's analysis not only provides an insight into the development of Malet's unique style, but demonstrates their importance in the development of Modernist female writing.Gender and genre ;no. 6.Art & Womanhood in Fin-de-Siecle WritingEnglish fiction19th centuryHistory and criticismEnglish fiction20th centuryHistory and criticismEnglish fictionWomen authorsHistory and criticismArt in literatureArt and literatureGreat BritainHistoryEnglish fictionHistory and criticism.English fictionHistory and criticism.English fictionWomen authorsHistory and criticism.Art in literature.Art and literatureHistory.823.8Delyfer Catherine.1482491UkCbUPUkCbUPBOOK9910781750003321Art and womanhood in fin-de-siecle writing3700156UNINA01396nam0 22002891i 450 UON0005840120231205102256.54620020107d1937 |0itac50 baaraENGIN|||| 1||||Analitical indices to the Kitab al-'ikd al-Farid[Cairo edition 1321 H.]Ahmad ibn Muhammad Ibn Rabbihi[a cura di] Muhammad SafiCalcuttaBaptist Mission Press19372 v.23 cmvol. 2 : Già AR 2101IT-UONSI ARAVIBC/021 (6)UON00357394Kitab al-'ikd al-Farid2813854INCalcuttaUONL000111ARA VI BCPAESI ARABI - LETTERATURA CLASSICA - STILISTICA, RETORICA, POETICAAIbn ʿAbd-Rabbihī, Aḥmad Ibn-MuḥammadUONV0373591216914SAFI'Mohammad Xan BahadurUONV015635Baptist Mission PressUONV245867650ITSOL20240220RICAUON00058401SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI ARA VI BC 021 (5) SI AR 2101 7 021 (5) SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI ARA VI BC 021 (6) SI SA 118464 7 021 (6) vol. 2 : Già AR 2101Kitab al-'ikd al-Farid2813854UNIOR
