It takes a critical look at the body of knowledge that comprises optical microscopy, compares and contrasts the various instruments, provides a clear discussion of the physical principles that underpin these techniques, and describes advances in science and medicine for which superresolution microscopes are required and are making major contributions. The text fills significant gaps that exist in other works on superresolution imaging, firstly by placing a new emphasis on the specimen, a critical component of the microscope setup, giving equal importance to the enhancement of both resolution and contrast. Secondly, it covers several topics not typically discussed in depth, such as Bessel and Airy beams, the physics of the spiral phase plate, vortex beams and singular optics, photoactivated localization microscopy (PALM), stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM), structured illumination microscopy (SIM), and light-sheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM). Several variants of these techniques are critically discussed. Noise, optical aberrations, specimen damage, and artifacts in microscopy are also covered. The importance of validation of superresolution images with electron microscopy is stressed. Additionally, the book includes translations and discussion of seminal papers by Abbe and Helmholtz that proved to be pedagogically relevant as well as historically significant. This book is written for students, researchers, and engineers in the life sciences, medicine, biological engineering, and materials science who plan to work with or already are working with superresolution light microscopes. The volume can serve as a reference for these areas while a selected set of individual chapters can be used as a textbook for a one-semester undergraduate or first-year graduate course on superresolution microscopy. Moreover, the text provides a captivating account of curiosity, skepticism, risk-taking, innovation, and creativity in science and technology. Good scientific practice is emphasized throughout, and the author’s lecture slides on responsible conduct of research are included as an online resource which will be of interest to students, course instructors, and scientists alike.Springer Series in Optical Sciences,0342-4111 ;227SpectroscopyMicroscopyMicrowavesOptical engineeringLasersPhotonicsHistorySpectroscopy and Microscopyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P31090Biological Microscopyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L26000Microwaves, RF and Optical Engineeringhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/T24019Optics, Lasers, Photonics, Optical Deviceshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P31030History of Sciencehttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/731000Spectroscopy.Microscopy.Microwaves.Optical engineering.Lasers.Photonics.History.Spectroscopy and Microscopy.Biological Microscopy.Microwaves, RF and Optical Engineering.Optics, Lasers, Photonics, Optical Devices.History of Science.578Masters Barry Rauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut845144MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK996418176903316Superresolution Optical Microscopy2022338UNISA01718nas# 22003491i 450 UON0000136320231205101850.6260043-824320020107f |0itac50 baengGB|||| |||||aT|||||||||World Archaeology1(1969/70)-London : Routledge & Kegan Paul Ltd, 1969/70-v.25 cmQuadrimestralev. 33IT-UONSI A Per1687/2001001UON000871622001 Population and demographyEdited by Stephen Shennan210 InWorld archeology vol. 30, n. 21998ARCHEOLOGIAUONC020484RIGBLondonUONL003044GBREGNO UNITO - PERIODICIADISDETTIABBONAMENTI DISDETTI - PERIODICIARoutledgeUONV248939650ITSOL20240220RICASIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOUONSI30(1998) lac. ; 1(1969/70) > 32(2000) *C* 33(2001) *1,2*A PER Afr 460 ; Per 1687 ;UON00001363SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI 30(1998) lac. ;SI A PER Afr 460 30 SI AA 21378 7 30 SIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEOSI 1(1969/70) > 32(2000) *C* 33(2001) *1,2*SI A Per 1687 1993 SI SA 72872 7 1993 SI SA 102536 7 2001 v. 33SI A Per 1687 2000 SI SA 102238 7 2000 World archaeology649806UNIOR
