His adventure was an exaggerated version of the unemployed migrations made by millions of boys, men, and a few women during the original "great depression of the 1890's. By taking to the road, young wayfarers like London forged a vast hobo subculture that was both a product of the new urban industrial order and a challenge to it. As London's experience suggests, this hobo world was born of equal parts desperation and fascination. "I went on 'The Road,'" he writes, "because I couldn't keep away from it . . . Because I was so made that I couldn't work all my life on 'one same shift'; because-well, just because it was easier to than not to." The best stories that London told about his hoboing days can be found in The Road, a collection of nine essays with accompanying illustrations, most of which originally appeared in Cosmopolitan magazine between 1907 and 1908. His virile persona spoke to white middle-class readers who vicariously escaped their desk-bound lives and followed London down the hobo trail. The zest and humor of his tales, as Todd DePastino explains in his lucid introduction, often obscure their depth and complexity. The Road is as much a commentary on London's disillusionment with wealth, celebrity, and the literary marketplace as it is a picaresque memoir of his youth.Authors, American20th centuryUnited StatesBiographyPrisonersUnited StatesBiographyTrampsUnited StatesBiographyRailroad travelUnited StatesVagrancyAuthors, AmericanPrisonersTrampsRailroad travelVagrancy813/.52BLondon Jackauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut193071DePastino Toddedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtDE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK9910777799403321Road25853UNINA03696nam 22006495 450 991101875550332120250728130303.0978303198304710.1007/978-3-031-98304-7(CKB)39766923500041(MiAaPQ)EBC32249078(Au-PeEL)EBL32249078(DE-He213)978-3-031-98304-7(OCoLC)1544990438(EXLCZ)993976692350004120250728d2025 u| 0engur|||||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierIntelligent and Fuzzy Systems Artificial Intelligence in Human-Centric, Resilient and Sustainable Industries, Proceedings of the INFUS 2025 Conference, Volume 4 /edited by Cengiz Kahraman, Selcuk Cebi, Basar Oztaysi, Sezi Cevik Onar, Cagrı Tolga, Irem Ucal Sari, İrem Otay1st ed. 2025.Cham :Springer Nature Switzerland :Imprint: Springer,2025.1 online resource (1348 pages)Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems,2367-3389 ;15319783031983030 Advanced Model Predictive Control Optimization for Automotive Dynamics -- Online Tuning Mechanism for Single Input Interval Type 2 Fuzzy PID Controller -- A Fuzzy Logic Approach to Power and SOC Management in NextGeneration eVTOL Aircraft Batteries -- Optimal Design of Type3 Fuzzy Controllers with Fuzzy Lyapunov Stability -- Regularity of Fermatean Quadripartitioned Neutrosophic Fuzzy Graph.Artificial Intelligence in Human-Centric, Resilient & Sustainable Industries This book focuses on benefiting artificial intelligent tools in our business and social life under emerging conditions. Human-centric, resilient, and sustainable industries are built on ideals like human-centricity, ecological advantages, or social benefits. The mission of human-centric artificial intelligence is to improve people’s lives by offering solutions that boost productivity, accessibility to resources, security, well-being, and general quality of life. The latest intelligent methods and techniques on human-centric, resilient, and sustainable industries are introduced by theory and applications. This book covers the chapters of world-wide known experts on machine learning, medical image processing, process intelligence, process mining, and others. The intended readers are intelligent systems researchers, lecturers, M.Sc. and Ph.D. students trying to develop approaches giving human needs, values, and viewpoints top priority through artificial intelligent systems.Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems,2367-3389 ;1531Computational intelligenceEngineeringData processingArtificial intelligenceComputational IntelligenceData EngineeringArtificial IntelligenceComputational intelligence.EngineeringData processing.Artificial intelligence.Computational Intelligence.Data Engineering.Artificial Intelligence.006.3Kahraman Cengiz738471Cebi Selcuk1770568Öztayşi Bașar0Cevik Onar Sezi1770567Tolga Cagrı1836648Ucal Sari Irem1836649Otay Irem1836650MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9911018755503321Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems4414844UNINA
