Schlußbemerkung -- Anschriften der Mitarbeiter. This scholarly work explores the complexities of European expansion during the early modern period, focusing on the cultural dynamics and perceptions involved. Edited by Hans-Joachim König and Wolfgang Reinhard, the essays investigate the interplay between European and non-European cultures, emphasizing how cultural codes shaped interactions, perceptions, and the resultant impacts. Topics include the destruction of indigenous cultures, the concept of ethnocide, and the evolving European efforts to objectively understand the 'Other.' Contributors analyze historical narratives, travel accounts, and the roles of imagination and distance in shaping perceptions of foreign cultures. The book aims to provide insights into the broader implications of cultural encounters, making it relevant for historians, anthropologists, and readers interested in colonial studies and cross-cultural dynamics.Generated by AI.Zeitschrift für Historische Forschung. Hallaq is regarded as one of the leading scholars in the field of Islamic law. In a path-breaking new book, the author shows how authority guaranteed both continuity and change in Islamic law. While the role of the law schools in augmenting these processes was of the essence, the author demonstrates that it was the construction of the absolutist authority of the school founder, an image which he suggests was actually developed later in history, that maintained the foundations of school methodology and hermeneutics. The defence of that methodology gave rise to an infinite variety of individual legal opinions, ultimately accommodating changes in the law. Thus the author concludes that the mechanisms of change were embedded in the very structure of Islamic law, despite its essentially conservative nature. This book will be welcomed by specialists and scholars in Islamic law for its rigour and innovation.Authority, Continuity & Change in Islamic LawIslamic lawInterpretation and constructionAuthorityReligious aspectsIslamIslamic lawInterpretation and construction.AuthorityReligious aspectsIslam.340.5/9Hallaq Wael B.1955-287455UkCbUPUkCbUPBOOK9910970814503321Authority, continuity and change in islamic law937763UNINA
