The paper first describes the lexicon used from a structural point of view. It then examines the use of multifunctional lexical items in comparison to English. The results of these studies show, that 1) there is no bound morphology (neither derivational nor inflectional) in the variety studied and, 2) there is much more multifunctionality in the pidgin text than in the English texts. Finally, it is argued that the results show that the lexicon studied can indeed be described as simple and efficient.Studies in language companion series ;v. 94.Typology (Linguistics)Languages in contactLinguistic changeCreole dialectsPidgin languagesTypology (Linguistics)Languages in contact.Linguistic change.Creole dialects.Pidgin languages.410Miestamo Matti1972-1801212Sinnemaki Kaius1203833Karlsson Fred676697MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910975311603321Language complexity4346338UNINA03268nam 2200661Ia 450 991095421170332120200520144314.0978128369825212836982509789048513772904851377410.1515/9789048513772(CKB)2670000000272583(EBL)1048741(OCoLC)815380399(SSID)ssj0000791423(PQKBManifestationID)12369565(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000791423(PQKBWorkID)10758758(PQKB)10917244(MiAaPQ)EBC1048741(DE-B1597)532970(DE-B1597)9789048513772(UkCbUP)CR9789048513772(Au-PeEL)EBL1048741(CaPaEBR)ebr10613628(CaONFJC)MIL401075(Perlego)1458570(EXLCZ)99267000000027258320111102d2012 uy 0engur|||||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierHabsburg communication in the Dutch revolt /Monica StenslandAmsterdam Amsterdam University Press20121 online resource (235 pages) digital, PDF file(s)Amsterdam studies in the Dutch golden ageTitle from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 29 Jan 2021).9789089644138 908964413X Includes bibliographical references and index.Frontmatter --Table of Contents --Acknowledgements --List of abbreviations --Notes on References and Translations --Introduction --Rooting out Heresy and Rebellion, 1567-1572 --From rebellion to War, 1572-1576 --The Breakdown of Royal Authority, 1576-1578 --Communicating Reconciliation, 1578-1585 --Losing the Peace, 1585-1595 --A New Beginning, 1596-1609 --Conclusion --Notes --Bibliography --Illustration Credits --IndexThis study takes a unique approach to the Dutch Revolt (1567-1609) by focusing on the largely untold story of the Habsburg regime and its local supporters in the Low Countries. The author takes a holistic approach and examines a variety of print and non-print 'written, oral, and theatrical' media in order to discover how the regime made use of the different communication channels available. In addition, available sources have been used to document ordinary people's responses to the conflict and the various messages they encountered in the public sphere. The result sheds new light on the Habsburg regime's approach to communication and opinion-forming, while also providing a useful corrective to our understanding of rebel propaganda.Amsterdam studies in the Dutch golden age.Political cultureNetherlandsHistoryNetherlandsHistoryEighty Years' War, 1568-1648Political cultureHistory.949.203Stensland Monica1980-1807603MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910954211703321Habsburg communication in the Dutch revolt4357422UNINA
