Goldenberg, William W. Andrews, Amy Yuan, H. Trent MacKay, Michael St. Louis -- Host Factors -- Clinical Outcomes And Methods -- Bacterial And Protozoal Diseases -- Viral Disease -- Animal Models -- Index. This volume offers a comprehensive review of the existing knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and adverse pregnancy outcomes. It identifies gaps in our knowledge, points out potential areas and tools for research, and discusses the implications for public health programs. Covering both those reproductive tract infections whose impact on pregnancy is clear and that are relatively well studied, as well as those reported more recently and whose adverse impacts, such as low birth weight and prematurity, are less clear, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Adverse Outcomes of Pregnancy is valuable reading for clinical microbiologists, pediatricians, perinatologists, gynecologists, obstetricians, and infectious disease researchers.ReproductionHealth planningReproduction.Health planning.612.6Wasserheit Judith N.1117088Hitchcock Penelope J.MacKay H. Using a comparative approach, the study throughout juxtaposes Arab and Hebrew educational systems in terms of administration, resources, curricula contents, and returns. Developments in education are analyzed in conjunction with wide demographic, economic, and sociopolitical changes.Al-Haj explores the expectations of the Palestinian community on the one hand and dominant groups on the other, showing that whereas Palestinians have seen education as a source of empowerment, government groups have seen it as a mechanism of social control. The book also sheds light on the wider issue of education and social change among developing minorities in the postcolonial era. Al-Haj examines modernization, underdevelopment, and control in order to delineate the role education plays among a national minority that is marginalized at the group level and denied access to the national opportunity structure.SUNY Series in Israeli StudiesPalestinian ArabsEducationGovernment policyIsraelEducation and stateIsraelEducationPolitical aspectsIsraelEducationSocial aspectsIsraelPalestinian ArabsEducationGovernment policyEducation and stateEducationPolitical aspectsEducationSocial aspects370/.95694Al Haj Majid877568MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910974450803321Education, empowerment, and control4344315UNINA
