Although nearly two-hundred state colleges and regional universities throughout the U.S. began as 'normal' schools, the institutions themselves have buried their history, and scholars have largely overlooked them. As these institutions later became state colleges and/or regional universities, they distanced themselves from the low status of elementary-literally erasing physical evidence of their normal-school past. In doing so, they buried the rich history of generations of students for whom attending normal school was an enriching, and sometimes life-changing experience. Focusing on these students, the first wave of 'non-traditional' students in higher education, The American State Normal School is a much-needed re-examination of the state normal school. This book was subject of an annual History of Education Society panel for best new books in the field.EducationHistoryEducation, HigherGeologyChemistry, OrganicEducation and stateEmergency medical servicesHistory of EducationHigher EducationGeologyOrganic ChemistryEducation PolicyEmergency ServicesEducationHistory.Education, Higher.Geology.Chemistry, Organic.Education and state.Emergency medical services.History of Education.Higher Education.Geology.Organic Chemistry.Education Policy.Emergency Services.370.09Ogren Christine A1791266MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910973519803321The American State Normal School4328391UNINA03904nam 2200757Ia 450 991096656100332120200520144314.09780889208896088920889110.51644/9780889208896(CKB)1000000000712897(EBL)685510(OCoLC)753479458(SSID)ssj0000285209(PQKBManifestationID)11207757(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000285209(PQKBWorkID)10261706(PQKB)10125717(CaPaEBR)402656(CaBNvSL)jme00327005(OCoLC)243566996(MdBmJHUP)muse47999(Au-PeEL)EBL685510(CaPaEBR)ebr10147391(VaAlCD)20.500.12592/xt5zwf(schport)gibson_crkn/2009-12-01/2/402656(MiAaPQ)EBC685510(MiAaPQ)EBC3246240(DE-B1597)667200(DE-B1597)9780889208896(Perlego)1706836(EXLCZ)99100000000071289719900803d1990 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierUtilization, misuse, and development of human resources in the early West Indian colonies /M.K. Believing existing theories of educational change are too limiting, Bacchus has blended detailed analysis of such important factors as the changing role of the state, the conflicting educational objectives among the ""dominant"" groups, and their differences with the missionary societies providing popular education to better understand how these changes came about.Human resources in the early West Indian coloniesEducationWest Indies, BritishHistoryEducationSocial aspectsWest Indies, BritishHistoryBlack peopleEducationWest Indies, BritishHistoryWest Indies, BritishSocial conditionsEducationHistory.EducationSocial aspectsHistory.Black peopleEducationHistory.370.9Bacchus M.
