CONCLUSIONS""; ""REFERENCES""Using available data on the distribution of HIV/AIDS prevalence across population groups for four sub-Saharan African countries and transposing this information to household income and expenditure surveys, we simulate the impact of HIV/AIDS on poverty and inequality. We find that the epidemic lowers average income and increases poverty, and that the jump in poverty is larger than expected from the fall in average income. This disproportionate increase in poverty reflects the large share of the population living on the threshold of poverty and the higher HIV prevalence rates in those segments of the population.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2006/126AIDS (Disease)Economic aspectsAIDS (Disease)Social aspectsAggregate Factor Income DistributionimfDemographic Economics: GeneralimfDemographyimfDiseases: AIDS and HIVimfHealth BehaviorimfHiv and AIDSimfHivimfHiv/AIDSimfIncome distributionimfIncomeimfMacroeconomicsimfPersonal incomeimfPersonal Income, Wealth, and Their DistributionsimfPopulation & demographyimfPopulation and demographicsimfPopulationimfPoverty & precarityimfPoverty and HomelessnessimfPovertyimfVirusesimfWelfare, Well-Being, and Poverty: GeneralimfZambiaimfAIDS (Disease)Economic aspects.AIDS (Disease)Social aspects.Aggregate Factor Income DistributionDemographic Economics: GeneralDemographyDiseases: AIDS and HIVHealth BehaviorHiv and AIDSHivHiv/AIDSIncome distributionIncomeMacroeconomicsPersonal incomePersonal Income, Wealth, and Their DistributionsPopulation & demographyPopulation and demographicsPopulationPoverty & precarityPoverty and HomelessnessPovertyVirusesWelfare, Well-Being, and Poverty: GeneralHaacker Markus1815920Salinas Gonzalo1816054DcWaIMFBOOK9910967322603321HIV4371689UNINA
