What constitutes a life that is not only good but superlative, or even “marvellous” or “holy”? Those who have such lives are called sages, heroes or saints, and their lives can display great integrity as well as integration with a transformative “Spiritual Presence.” Does it follow that saints are perfect people? Is there a common vision that impels them to seek holiness? In a controversial interpretation of mysticism Horne suggests that there is no single formula for the meaning of life and no one story that displays it to us. Mysticism, rather than being just a visionary perception, then becomes a problem-solving process that brings about a creative transformation of the personality at a critical stage in life. He suggests also that saints may be imperfect morally and describes true saints as double-minded: they are serious in a playful way. Mysticism and Vocation illuminates our understanding of saintly lives by explicating their mystical characteristics and extending discussions of mysticism to explain its role in active lives. In discussing important decisions that go beyond conventional morality, it adds to recent philosophical arguments by Charles Taylor, Alasdair MacIntyre, Iris Murdoch, Bernard Williams and others to the effect that morality should be defined more broadly to deal with the human condition. This book will be of interest to students of philosophy and religious studies, in both graduate and undergraduate programs.Editions SR ;v. 18.Mysticism & vocationMysticismVocation (in religious orders, congregations, etc.)Mysticism.Vocation (in religious orders, congregations, etc.)248.2/2Horne James R.1931-1136699Canadian Corporation for Studies in Religion.MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910967261403321Mysticism and vocation4359971UNINA02894nam 22006375 450 991029948420332120200630160238.09783319026091331902609710.1007/978-3-319-02609-1(CKB)3710000000078602(DE-He213)978-3-319-02609-1(SSID)ssj0001049331(PQKBManifestationID)11682073(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001049331(PQKBWorkID)11019305(PQKB)11171991(MiAaPQ)EBC3101245(PPN)176106383(EXLCZ)99371000000007860220131001d2014 u| 0engurnn|008mamaatxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierStochastic Reactive Distributed Robotic Systems Design, Modeling and Optimization /by Gregory Mermoud1st ed. 2014.Cham :Springer International Publishing :Imprint: Springer,2014.1 online resource (XII, 215 p. 77 illus., 45 illus. in color.) The work bridges the gap between statistical mechanics and control theory by tackling a number of challenges for a class of distributed systems involving a specific type of constitutive components, namely referred to as Smart Minimal Particles. The results described in the volume are expected to lead to more robust, dependable, and inexpensive distributed systems such as those endowed with complex and advanced sensing, actuation, computation, and communication capabilities.Springer Tracts in Advanced Robotics,1610-7438 ;93RoboticsAutomationArtificial intelligenceRobotics and Automationhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/T19020Artificial Intelligencehttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I21000Robotics.Automation.Artificial intelligence.Robotics and Automation.Artificial Intelligence.003.7Mermoud Gregoryauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut871857MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910299484203321Stochastic Reactive Distributed Robotic Systems1946416UNINA
