Similar analyses have been done for Latin America, Europe, and the United States, but none in the context of low-income countries. Using public financial management indicators, as measured in two recent assessments related to the Heavily-Indebted Poor Countries Initiative, this study shows that improving public financial management leads to better fiscal outcomes, as measured by the overall fiscal balance and external debt levels, after controlling for other characteristics that might alter fiscal outcomes.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2008/217Fiscal policyAfrica, Sub-SaharanEconometric modelsFinance, PublicAfrica, Sub-SaharanEconometric modelsDebts, PublicAfrica, Sub-SaharanEconometric modelsBudget execution and treasury managementimfBudget planning and preparationimfBudget SystemsimfBudgetimfBudgeting & financial managementimfBudgetingimfExpenditureimfExpenditures, PublicimfFinance, PublicimfFiscal PolicyimfFiscal policyimfFiscal stanceimfMacroeconomicsimfNational BudgetimfNational Budget, Deficit, and Debt: GeneralimfNational Government Expenditures and Related Policies: GeneralimfPublic finance & taxationimfPublic FinanceimfPublic financial management (PFM)imfSão Tomé and Príncipe, Democratic Republic ofimfFiscal policyEconometric models.Finance, PublicEconometric models.Debts, PublicEconometric models.Budget execution and treasury managementBudget planning and preparationBudget SystemsBudgetBudgeting & financial managementBudgetingExpenditureExpenditures, PublicFinance, PublicFiscal PolicyFiscal policyFiscal stanceMacroeconomicsNational BudgetNational Budget, Deficit, and Debt: GeneralNational Government Expenditures and Related Policies: GeneralPublic finance & taxationPublic FinancePublic financial management (PFM)339.520967Cabezon Ezequiel1815857Prakash Tej1815858DcWaIMFBOOK9910965543303321Public Financial Management and Fiscal Outcomes in Sub-Saharan African Heavily-Indebted Poor Countries4371395UNINA
