The search for efficient skillful particle filters for high-dimensional turbulent dynamical systems. Many natural phenomena ranging from climate through to biology are described by complex dynamical systems. Getting information about these phenomena involves filtering noisy data and prediction based on incomplete information (complicated by the sheer number of parameters involved), and often we need to do this in real time, for example for weather forecasting or pollution control. All this is further complicated by the sheer number of parameters involved leading to further problems associated with the 'curse of dimensionality' and the 'curse of small ensemble size'. The authors develop, for the first time in book form, a systematic perspective on all these issues from the standpoint of applied mathematics. The book contains enough background material from filtering, turbulence theory and numerical analysis to make the presentation self-contained and suitable for graduate courses as well as for researchers in a range of disciplines where applied mathematics is required to enlighten observations and models.Filters (Mathematics)DynamicsMathematical modelsTurbulenceNumerical analysisFilters (Mathematics)DynamicsMathematical models.Turbulence.Numerical analysis.660.2842450151Majda Andrew1949-477021Harlim JohnUkCbUPUkCbUPBOOK9910790142003321Filtering complex turbulent systems3695409UNINA04403nam 2200757Ia 450 991096541500332120200520144314.00-253-00582-51-283-60865-09786613921109(CKB)2670000000242515(EBL)816849(OCoLC)813844885(SSID)ssj0000745276(PQKBManifestationID)11484341(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000745276(PQKBWorkID)10851829(PQKB)10508518(MdBmJHUP)muse18216(Au-PeEL)EBL816849(CaPaEBR)ebr10604288(CaONFJC)MIL392110(Perlego)568756(MiAaPQ)EBC816849(EXLCZ)99267000000024251520111222d2012 uy 0engurcn|||||||||txtccrHip hop Africa new African music in a globalizing world /edited by Eric Charry1st ed.Bloomington ;Indianapolis Indiana University Press20121 online resource (405 p.)African expressive culturesDescription based upon print version of record.0-253-00575-2 0-253-00307-5 Includes bibliographical references and index.Includes discography, videography, and webography.A capsule history of African rap \ Eric Charry -- Rap stories (Ghana and South Africa). Eric Charry and an international group of contributors look carefully at youth culture and the explosion of hip hop in Africa, the embrace of other contemporary genres, including reggae, ragga, and gospel music, and the continued vitality of drumming. Covering Senegal, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, and South Africa, this volume offers unique perspectives on the presence and development of hip hop and other music...African expressive cultures.Rap (Music)AfricaHistory and criticismPopular musicAfricaHistory and criticismHip-hopAfricaMusic and youthAfricaMusic and globalizationAfricaPopular musicSocial aspectsAfricaRap (Music)History and criticism.Popular musicHistory and criticism.Hip-hopMusic and youthMusic and globalizationPopular musicSocial aspects781.63096782.421649096Charry Eric S1142190MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910965415003321Hip hop Africa4448420UNINA
