Sensitivity Analysis: Macroeconomic Effects of Tax Reform and Expenditure RestraintThe Czech Republic has embarked on an ambitious tax reform and expenditure package to bring the deficit sustainably below 3 percent, and intends to reduce the deficit to 1 percent of GDP by 2012. To address the long-term fiscal challenge due to population aging, pension reform proposals are also being considered. In this paper we assess the macroeconomic effects of these measures using the Global Fiscal Model. The tax reform package will achieve a more efficient tax system. If implemented successfully with the intended expenditure savings measures, debt is projected to improve markedly while output would expand. Fiscal sustainability will not be restored, however, even if further measures to bring the deficit to 1 percent of GDP by 2012. Instead, raising the retirement age and prefunding future aging costs would be needed to keep debt below 60 percent of GDP through 2050.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2008/125TaxationCzech RepublicPensionsCzech RepublicDebts, PublicCzech RepublicFiscal policyCzech RepublicEconomic developmentCzech RepublicAgingimfConsumptionimfDemographyimfEconomics of the ElderlyimfEconomics of the HandicappedimfEconomicsimfExpenditureimfExpenditures, PublicimfFiscal PolicyimfFiscal policyimfMacroeconomicsimfMacroeconomics: ConsumptionimfNational Government Expenditures and Related Policies: GeneralimfNon-labor Market DiscriminationimfPersonal Income and Other Nonbusiness Taxes and SubsidiesimfPopulation & demographyimfPopulation agingimfPublic finance & taxationimfPublic FinanceimfSavingimfSocial security contributionsimfSocial securityimfTaxationimfWealthimfWelfare & benefit systemsimfCzech RepublicimfTaxationPensionsDebts, PublicFiscal policyEconomic developmentAgingConsumptionDemographyEconomics of the ElderlyEconomics of the HandicappedEconomicsExpenditureExpenditures, PublicFiscal PolicyFiscal policyMacroeconomicsMacroeconomics: ConsumptionNational Government Expenditures and Related Policies: GeneralNon-labor Market DiscriminationPersonal Income and Other Nonbusiness Taxes and SubsidiesPopulation & demographyPopulation agingPublic finance & taxationPublic FinanceSavingSocial security contributionsSocial securityTaxationWealthWelfare & benefit systems336.2Botman Dennis901784Tuladhar Anita1816206DcWaIMFBOOK9910961919103321Tax and Pension Reform in the Czech Republic—Implications for Growth and Debt Sustainability4372323UNINA06731nam 22005775 450 991025468810332120200701085637.03-319-31012-710.1007/978-3-319-31012-1(CKB)3710000000718268(EBL)4538371(DE-He213)978-3-319-31012-1(MiAaPQ)EBC4538371(EXLCZ)99371000000071826820160603d2016 u| 0engur|n|---|||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierCoaching Psychology: Meta-theoretical perspectives and applications in multicultural contexts /edited by Llewellyn E. van Zyl, Marius W. Election Day, 1920 --Conclusion: Legacies Of The Florida Movement --Notes --Selected Bibliography --IndexIn this penetrating examination of African American politics and culture, Paul Ortiz throws a powerful light on the struggle of black Floridians to create the first statewide civil rights movement against Jim Crow. Concentrating on the period between the end of slavery and the election of 1920, Emancipation Betrayed vividly demonstrates that the decades leading up to the historic voter registration drive of 1919-20 were marked by intense battles during which African Americans struck for higher wages, took up arms to prevent lynching, forged independent political alliances, boycotted segregated streetcars, and created a democratic historical memory of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Contrary to previous claims that African Americans made few strides toward building an effective civil rights movement during this period, Ortiz documents how black Floridians formed mutual aid organizations-secret societies, women's clubs, labor unions, and churches-to bolster dignity and survival in the harsh climate of Florida, which had the highest lynching rate of any state in the union. African Americans called on these institutions to build a statewide movement to regain the right to vote after World War I. African American women played a decisive role in the campaign as they mobilized in the months leading up to the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment. The 1920 contest culminated in the bloodiest Election Day in modern American history, when white supremacists and the Ku Klux Klan violently, and with state sanction, prevented African Americans from voting. Ortiz's eloquent interpretation of the many ways that black Floridians fought to expand the meaning of freedom beyond formal equality and his broader consideration of how people resist oppression and create new social movements illuminate a strategic era of United States history and reveal how the legacy of legal segregation continues to play itself out to this day.African AmericansFloridaPolitics and government19th centuryAfrican AmericansFloridaPolitics and government20th centuryAfrican AmericansCivil rightsFloridaHistoryAfrican AmericansFloridaSocial conditionsRacismFloridaHistory19th centuryRacismFloridaHistory20th centuryViolenceFloridaHistory19th centuryViolenceFloridaHistory20th centuryFloridaRace relationsFloridaPolitics and government1865-1950African AmericansPolitics and governmentAfrican AmericansPolitics and governmentAfrican AmericansCivil rightsHistory.African AmericansSocial conditions.RacismHistoryRacismHistoryViolenceHistoryViolenceHistory305.896/0730759/09034HIS036000HIS054000bisacshOrtiz Paul1964-1896274MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910966803003321Emancipation betrayed4550765UNINA
