CONCLUSIONS""; ""Data Issues and Methodology""; ""References""The paper examines the evolution of public sector debt levels and structures in 12 emerging market countries around the time of financial crises. In particular, it focuses on whether the debt situation of sovereign borrowers became more vulnerable in the aftermath of crises. The principal findings are that (i) debt levels tend to increase significantly post-crisis, and (ii) countries often experience more rigid debt structures following such events, with an increase in the share of external public debt to multilateral creditors and a greater exposure of the domestic banking system to sovereign debt.IMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;No. 2006/186Debts, PublicFinancial crisesDebt ManagementimfDebtimfDebts, ExternalimfDebts, PublicimfDomestic debtimfEconomic & financial crises & disastersimfExports and ImportsimfExternal debtimfFinancial CrisesimfFinancial crisesimfFinancial Risk ManagementimfInternational economicsimfInternational Lending and Debt ProblemsimfPublic and publicly-guaranteed external debtimfPublic debtimfPublic finance & taxationimfPublic FinanceimfSovereign DebtimfUruguayimfDebts, Public.Financial crises.Debt ManagementDebtDebts, ExternalDebts, PublicDomestic debtEconomic & financial crises & disastersExports and ImportsExternal debtFinancial CrisesFinancial crisesFinancial Risk ManagementInternational economicsInternational Lending and Debt ProblemsPublic and publicly-guaranteed external debtPublic debtPublic finance & taxationPublic FinanceSovereign DebtRother Bjoern1816486de Bolle Monica1816487Hakobyan Ivetta1816488DcWaIMFBOOK9910956116003321The Level and Composition of Public Sector Debt in Emerging Market Crises4372597UNINA
